I have been involved in the beta of Ring of Pain and this project excited me since day one. I am drawn to card games and roguelites in the first place but the artwork absolutely blew me away and sucked me in.

Not gonna lie… Owl is twisted.

Overview
Ring of pain is a roguelite, card-based dungeon crawler (card crawler is what they call it). Instead of having a deck of cards the dungeon itself is represented by cards. Creatures, treasure, potions, exits, items are all represented by the cards. You travel in a circle through the room encountering the objects. When you do leave the room you find yourself in the master ring.

Runs are somewhat bite-sized taking under an hour and a half in general to complete. When you get familiar with the game you can complete them in around 45 minutes. There is no in run save game so it's complete the run, die or quit. (they are adding a save in)

When you complete the run one way or another you may unlock cards of various strengths that can appear in subsequent runs. Allowing you to grow in power to get further in the Ring Of Pain.

There is also a daily dungeon mode which is the same dungeon for everyone. There are 2 mutators (special rules) that are selected each day for the dungeon. Scores and a leaderboard track both your first try and your best score. There is a separate leaderboard for each as well as a separate board for your friends and for global players.

Features

- A large amount of items and item sets to use and combine.
- Normal mode with unlocks and achievements
- Hard mode for the masochist in all of us.
- Daily dungeon mode with scores and leaderboards tracking your first try and best try both globally and with your steam friends. (It is unlocked)
- Twitch Integration where the viewers can vote to choose the items you receive and can also
draw the artwork for the creatures you encounter (moderators approve the images)

Value

At $19.99 USD I think it is a fair price. I can see through that one of the complaints that people are mentioning is the price.

So I expect to get 20 hours of the game at the very least. With that figure in mind, this is a good value for the price. Sure it's not Slay The Spire 500 hours value but it is good value.

The developers are not done with the game, they have a feature-rich roadmap that is taking into account player feedback and adding and enhancing the game. So the value will only increase in time.

Overall

The developers are not done with the game, they have a feature-rich roadmap that is taking into account player feedback and adding and enhancing the game. The initial changes are in the public beta branch and in the game already.

I have seen the complanint that the RNG is ruthless and there is a major difficulty spike. This is the nature of roguelite/roguelike games. They are making adjustments and enhancements to smooth the curve and give the player tools to mitigate RNG while still keeping the game challenging.

I personally am a big fan of the Daily Dungeon and leaderboard chase. It’s a lot of fun and playing with the mutators make it interesting each time.

The game is quite immersive. The story, the artwork, the music (the soundtrack is available) all work together to enhance the experience.

While Card Hog is in Early Access its very playable with lots of features that I will get into.

First of all the game is a great value. Its 3.99 at full price and often goes under 3$ during sales. The price to value exchange is insane here. There is a ton of replay value.

Card Hog is at its heart a turn based roguelite where cards represent the dungeon. You move your hog (there are different hog classes) through the card layout and encounter the spaces you move into. There are special interactions between items that you are supposed to figure out. an example of this is you can use an item to ride a bull.
There are monsters, items, towns, dungeons, coins and other things to encounter.

While the game is fairly light it manages to have lots of features to keep you engaged and having fun. The artwork is very cute and really adds to the game.

* You can choose the map size
* It has steam workshop support for art customization
* Dungeon Loop Mode
* Endless Mode
* Flame Escape Mode
* MULTIPLAYER????? Where you have the ability to duel, or co-op, and even the flame escape mode with a friend.
* Achievements, Unlocks, Character Progression, Multiple Classes, and permanent upgrades round out the excellent feature set.

The developer is always checking for feedback on steam, twitter and discord he is very responsive and does implement ideas discussed by the community.

It's a light roguelite that will keep you entertained at an amazing value. There is no reason anyone into roguelites or interested in trying them should not own this game.

Hi Seth ! I'll probably be playing Angola tonight, especially as there have been several updates (the developer is passionate, there's no doubt about that !). Ah, Terminal Conflict is a great game and I need to get back into it : it's one of those games I want to spend time with, but to do that I need space and, yes, I need to immerse myself in it for a long time. By the way, I've spoken to Philippe : this weekend is very busy for him, but he's agreed to arrange a meeting with you (with a precise date and time, otherwise you'll never talk), and so, if you'd like to give him your possibilities on Discord so that you can find a date/time. Anyway, message passed ! Have a good week and see you soon ! :mirage:

Thank you too ! I played a bit Angola and to my point of view it is - even as an EA - the best one in the series. Very well researched (although I planned to contact the author about some vehicles that seemed anachronistic to me at the start of the campaign, but I admit I'm nitpicking). Vietnam and Afghanistan were pretty good, but this one is very well designed with a wealth of content and excellent exploitation of the mechanisms that prevail in the series. It's still abrupt in terms of graphics, but even if it remained as is, considering the substance, I would still be enthusiastic. And the designer/developer is obviously passionate... Gettysburg is not great, but not bad. Perfect for what it is (and wants to be).
