I remember playing this at a younger age and loving it. Replaying it now, I was easily reminded how masterfully made this game was. For being 25 years old, Thief was entire galaxies ahead of the stealth genre, with the only close rival being Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. As much as I love Splinter Cell, I still think Thief wins out with ingenuity, implementation, and design. The realization that a game from 1998 had such amazing voice acting, light and noise detection, depth, design, and even a parrying system (insanely rough to get used to, but works when understood) is honestly mind blowing to me.

I thought it was a great game when I played it in high school, but playing it as an adult who has played a plethora of games, Thief lives after it's title of being GOLD. If you enjoy stealth, the entire series will not disappoint you. I had plenty of jump scares, combat is fun and easy to control once you get the hang of it, and I felt incredibly accomplished after finishing all my objectives without knocking out or killing anyone, or setting off alarms. If there is ever a video game hall of fame, or list of games that started/innovated a genre, Thief deserves a solid place at the top for Stealth.
