-Roster too little, right now we have 12 starting suits. But in a team of 6, our option becomes very limited
-Disconnect and crashes bugs especially when a match ends seem to happen fairly often
-Not enough customization (ability-wise). As for now, you'll just need to accept the suit's kit as it is and git gud with it.
-More balancing needed. Buff GM Sniper pls.
-Ambiguous role, not clearly stated for each suit. For all I know, Barbatos could be a support unit.
-No japanese voice over.


UPDATE (10/14/2022)

-Still so many crashes after match
-Unnecessary censorship (They censored the word "con" for example, you can't type "connect")
-No reconnect after crash or disconnect.
-The previous patches seems to be useless in terms of optimization
-Still cash grab, getting units are too expensive

UPDATE (10/22/2022)

First major patch, and they nerfed the ones that didn't need such as Sazabi. Sure they nerfed Exia and Zaku Melee's ultimate, but they DID NOT TOUCH BARBATOS AT ALL.

And no talk about changing or improving the currency system. Getting currency only via season pass and not getting any nickel or dime after a match. The game is gonna die soon.

For less then $10, you can have an all you can eat yakiniku, but still be hungry and sad but satisfied.

Your character doesn't know how to jump properly like a normal person.

This one sparks joy.

I'm too lazy to make an in-depth review so I grabbed a template and will try to elaborate some points of the game.

I'm by no means an expert in Ys lore, but I can happily and joyfully say that Ys VIII can be a good entry.
Storywise, this game is hella superb. I played many JRPG and have seen so many cliches and all that that could make you cringe or predictable ♥♥♥♥♥♥. The story got me going ONLY after a few minutes in, and the way this game tells the story is really something. No loose-ends, no cliffhanger, no unanswered lores (with the exception of references from previous titles, but it is VERY minor) and all characters are very likeable. Captivating from the beginning till the end.

Gameplay-wise, I did a blind Nightmare run (4th difficulty from 5 difficulties with the last being Inferno), aandd I almost gave up and changed the difficulty. BUT. Achievements says otherwise. So, from zero to hero, I honestly think that Nightmare difficulty is the most suitable one even if you're new to Ys. The combat system is your day-to-day fast paced hack and slash with the addition of survivability techniques called Flash Move (FM) that requires you to dodge at the perfect timing at which you'll gain a speed boost and enemies will be slown, and the other called Flash Guard (FG), your typical parry mechanics that'll grant you a short invulnerability window and guaranteed crit hits. The combat feels great with a controller. Sadly there are no minigames except for fishing, but I can say fishing here is both satisfying and tiring. There's also a tad bit of base building and relationship system (no romance, mind you). Overall, everything feels great and so far, I didn't feel any kind of boredom in any part of the game except for a good chunk of grinding, but then again it's a JRPG.

Music, beautiful. BUT, there are times where I think the music doesn't suit the area's theme and feel. It is a similar experience when I played Ys Origins, nonetheless still great (especially the main theme).

In conclusion? Buy! Best at sale but I think for the amount of content this game has, it's also worth the full price.

It's a cool game, and I have my rights to play games such as this.
Sad that you cannot link your old mobile account into Steam version.
