It's some of the most fun I've had in a monster hunter game, played every iteration since Tri on wii and logged at least 200 hours on each game.

It is my favourite franchise of all time and every new game improves on the last. This was no exception.

Yes, to a new player, the controls might feel a little.. off, but that's only because the game has so much depth and so many systems working at once. Brace through it, learn to adapt. it will feel natural and fun once you make a little progress.
It's come a long way since having to hold your DS like you're a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ crab. or moving R3 on a ps2 controller with your chin so you can still reach all the other buttons as fast as you need to.

I spent my first 20 hours just walking around the forest, enjoying the sights and catching bugs and little monsties with my net.
1000 hours of fighting giant monsters and dragons, helping people, challenging my skill. absolutely loving the game.
and the last 200 hours just.. fishing.

While waiting for monster hunter:rise to come out on steam, I absolutely recommend monster hunter to anybody who enjoys action rpg games. feeling badass killing big monsters or something to play with friends.

Give it a chance if you've not done already.
