TL;DR:
-- If you haven't played the original HL2 but like VR? Play it! If you like kinetic physics, immersive cinematic experiences, and realistic shooters with story elements .. But if you have played the original and love the game? Well, you're in for a HUGE NOSTALGIA TRIP and an experience that you cannot put into words.

Being a HUGE Half Life fan and probably played HL2 more than 10 times, playing these titles in VR was something to behold .. The scale is mind blowing with Valves 3D skybox tech and holds up even today. I knew all the dialogue and the story beats, but in VR it was amazing, acting them out. Remembering all the locations and when an cinematic experience was about to happen, I got all excited for it to unfold to see it in virtual reality. .. and every single time, it left me speechless.

I recommend this to anybody that likes really immersive VR experiences in general though, even if you haven't played the original. HL2, if you haven't played it before, is probably one of the best games ever made, horror, action, romance, characters, locations .. It's amazing.. If you play it in 2024 on flatscreen, it definitely looks somewhat outdated, but in VR you totally overlook all of it and immerse yourself in the story, lore and extremely cinematic action sequences. Some events even make you feel like you're on a Disney roller coaster ride.

The mod team absolutely nailed this btw. It ALL feels like native support. the crowbar swings are kinetic and satisfying and the weapon reloads on sci-fi guns is sweet. ALSO, the "mod" is a one click download, it doesn't even need HL2 to be installed, it's a standalone game you install through Steam and is FREE. I feel the need to point this out, as when you say "mod" it normally means tweaking with something. It's like it's own standalone game and also has achievements!

Editing this review due to the recent cease and desist for SM2 and ♥♥♥♥. Truly terrible move from Activision.

Garrys Mod but VR.

It's a little buggy and surface level but writing is fun and has great moments.

Amazingly well done. Most enviroments look near photorealistic .. IN VR! It's an amazing feat, plus with all the physics props, it's really next level immersion. Valve has outdone themselves, especially with the narrative. Amazing story and great comedy throughout.

I came back for the Internet Historian. Heartwarming story and had to support the cause!

It was alright!
