This is not a bad DLC, it's just not worth 12$. Either grab the season pass or wait for a very steep sale.

Storywise, it isn't great. There's some amusing moments here and there but overall it's shallow. "Oh wow yet ANOTHER corrupt corporation, who knew!?" and with no shortage of stereotypical characters. Slaw and that hacker girl come to mind. The EVIL "racist" and the stronk hacker woman with flashy hair. Francis is back at least. Story is self contained, mostly a setup for the breach gamemode.

So it just comes down to, do you enjoy the mechanics of the base game? If you do and want more, get it. It's rather easy, even more so than the main game which is a shame. The most you're going to get out of it is 2 hours if you ♥♥♥♥ around like I did and want to explore every nook and cranny. The level design is a bit weaker but still pretty good.

Should have been in the game, it probably was supposed to be actually but I bet Square Enix had something to do with it.

If you pay 10$ in KF1 you got 6 or so different fun weapons
If you pay 10$ in KF2 you get one weapon that will probably not differ all that much from what we've already got due to ♥♥♥♥ class balance and the half assed weapon upgrade system.

Gee I wonder why this is a bad move on Tripwire's part.

The game started out great, it has good music, a good narrator and the story seemed cute. However it quickly turned into a bunch of unfunny and outdated references, no real story whatsoever and the platforming never got more complex as I thought it would. It's overly simplistic and not in a good way.
Don't even get me started on how much of a headache it was switching between characters that are on the other side of the level. Having keybindings for each shape was that hard eh?

If you're looking for a challenge it's not here, if you're looking for a good story it's not here. Unless you care about achievements, it's really easy to 100% this, definitely skip it.

If you're looking for a fast paced shooter with an amusing story which does some interesting things narrative wise, this is for you.

Pros:
  • Funny
  • Well paced story
  • Satisfying gameplay
  • Beautiful, stylized visuals
  • Arcade mode (Challenges etc)

Cons:
  • Some unskippable "cutscenes"
  • Level design is mostly boring

The story is probably the strongest suit of the game. You play as an old bounty hunter who is sharing his life story at a seemingly random saloon. He narrates the story as you play, with other people cutting in at times, recalling past events but his memory is kinda fuzzy and that results in the level often changing as you play in various ways. It nails that feel of someone telling a story perfectly BUT sometimes your game is going to be paused, rewound or slowed down due to that and those moments are not skippable like the main cutscenes are. It will probably get annoying if you aren't interested in the story or are replaying it.
No complaints other than that. It's amusing, lighthearted with some dark undertones and has an interesting twist at the end. Good voice acting too.

The gameplay is really good, satisfying and incredibly fast paced. They did a good job with the enemy and weapon variety. Skills acquired make you feel like a god at times when you are maxed or close to maxed out but the game still retains its difficulty. True west difficulty and arcade mode add some replay value and it's interesting going through the story again knowing what you do in the end.

While the gameplay more than makes up for it, the level design is incredibly boring save for a couple of bosses. It's just going through "corridors" pretty much. Not anything else bad to say, visuals are timeless because of them being stylized and there's some pretty scenery to look at.

This game is a cool little gem. It will keep you occupied for a few hours and maybe you'll get to hone your aiming skills too. Definitely worth full price.

Usually I break down a game by story, gameplay and the like but I just can't do it with this game. Everything that is done is deliberate and even if it isn't, it works beautifully with the narrative the game sets up. If you are a person who only and I mean only cares for gameplay or you don't like third person shooters, do not buy this. Otherwise I think everyone should experience what it has to offer. This game is not what it seems to be. Pay attention. There's plenty of little details to go along with the amazing journey it takes you through.

I strongly recommend playing through it in one sitting to get the full effect. The game is relatively short, completed it at around 6 hours on the hardest difficulty.

Also something I can mention that doesn't really have any bearing to the overall game is the setting. Could have been anything and it would have worked but Dubai overtaken by the desert is a nice change of scenery.
Anyway, buy it and play it as soon as possible.

Tl;dr If you are looking for a single player military shooter that shows you the horrors of war among other things and has decent gameplay, just go play Spec Ops: the Line. Do not buy this.

Homefront is a relic of the past. Extremely linear military shooter with a meh story at best. I didn't play through it all and I doubt I will. The game is relatively short anyway so unless there's a huge plot twist there's nothing that saves this huge pile of stinking ♥♥♥♥.

Pros:
  • Getting it for multiplayer is a cheap alternative to BF or CoD
  • For once it's not ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Nazis
Cons:
  • Extremely linear
  • Sluggish gameplay
  • Shallow story, no subtelty
  • Options menu doesn't work half the time
  • Visual bugs if you change the fov to anything other than the "how to get motionsickness" default

First lets talk about how absolutely horrendus the options menu is. Most things don't save unless you run the game as admin, tons of options that are under multiplayer also affect singleplayer and there's definitely something up with the FOV slider, to get to a standard 90 FOV you need to set it to 115 or so for some reason. Warning, the gun models don't scale down, so they take up half your screen regardless.

Gameplay is garbage. Feels sluggish as hell, all enemies are the same (broken down to humans and vehicles/turrets), the AI is awful, regenerative health which takes away any speck of difficulty this game may have had and the collectables which are laughably easy to find and glow from a mile away. Would it have killed them if they had some more open ended areas with some collectibles that you had to shoot to collect or something? Anything to make it feel less linear.

Before I get into the story, I wanna give credit where it's due. The written material this game had (collectibles) was obviously carefuly thought out and had some effort poured into it. I read the first few, skimmed the rest but I can say that much and there's some attention to detail if you look at your surroundings, especially in houses. Too bad those aren't nearly enough to save this atrocity of a game.

So the story, shallow characters, your typical revolution ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and it tries to do that thing where it shows the horrors of war, except it's hamfisted in your face constantly. As I said at the start of the review, there's a game which does that and a lot more but much, much better and it's called Spec Ops: The Line. If you really are thinking of buying this game, don't and buy that instead.
Also, walking sections... ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ waaaaaaaalking seeeeeeeections and the NPC's somehow manage to walk slower than you even though you are going at the slowest speed possible.

There's nothing else to say, it's terrible. Makes me glad first person shooters did not go down this path, no matter how much CoD or the like try to make it so. Avoid pretty much always.

Rise of the Tomb Raider is a great game that improves on many aspects over the original albeit a bit rough around the edges. This review is for the complete edition of the game (season pass owners).

Pros:
  • Weapon Variety
  • Great optimization
  • Huge focus on exploration
  • Collectibles that make sense
  • Croft Manor is a fun side game, would love to see more
  • Great pacing, decent story. Didn't feel like it dragged on
  • Tons of challenges that add to the replayability (only for season pass owners)

Cons:
  • Melee is clunky
  • Visual bugs, no lip syncing in some areas
  • A fair amount of crashes later in the game
  • Game is a bit on the easy side (extreme survivor)
  • Indicators for usable objects need to die already or at least made more subtle.

Lets start with the gameplay, it's your typical third person shooter and aside from the lackluster melee, it's pretty great. Responsive, feels satisfying and there's more freedom to the movement than the game first lets on.
There's a decent amount of weapons that fit any playstyle you want and unlike the first game where there was an encounter every two seconds, there's just enough for you to have fun with your new upgrades. Of course the game does get a lot more action packed near the end but that's ok.

Aside from enemies having more pieces of armor on them the enemy variety is lacking. There's only four different human enemies. Basic, flamethrower guy (who is used only or twice during the entire story), melee rushers and shield dudes. The Deathless are very similar to humans but a bit harder to kill and all the animals are basically the same between them just some are bigger and have more health.
(The feedback from shooting animals is pretty disappointing to say the least. Jaguars(?) and bears don't even flinch after taking 10 rifle shots to the face. It just feels like I'm shooting at nothing.)

Level design was decent. Every area in the game has a lot of collectibles and secrets to find along with the challenge tombs. Instead of making a huge open world game with a bunch of nothing, they went for small but good areas. Generally, this is the meat of the game. While you can blast through the story I think this is what Tomb Raider should be all about. At first I thought the crafting system would be an afterthought and forced but it turns out it's a great match for the exploring nature of the game. Aside from all the collectibles there's also a lot of resources to find around the place and trying to get that next upgrade can be an adventure in it of itself.

Lets move on to the challenge tombs / puzzles. As I mentioned there's a couple of puzzles which took me a bit to get but everything is rather simple. Instead of the game leading you to dead ends while solving them there's only one linear path to the solution (eg you can only move a cart into one spot, making the puzzle significantly easier to figure out). While the puzzles could be more complex, I think what contributes more to the easy nature of them are the usable object indicators. Rope around everything that a rope arrow can be used on, yellow walls for sticking climbing arrows and so on. I understand the need for them but they could at least be made a bit more subtle.
Also, not enough traps in general throughout the game (especially in tombs) and the trap slowmo should be removed. Instead make traps avoidable.

Yes, the pacing is great both story and gameplay wise, encounters get more challenging as you go on and I died a few times especially towards the end but I still think it was kinda easy. Maybe it should have had less campfires but once you are in a hub area there's one in every corner. Not being able to save frequently is the appeal of extreme survivor and this just takes away so much of that. However when you're not in a hub area they are usually spread out evenly. I guess this is more of an issue with the campfires rather than the difficulty itself. Which was difficult enough with some room for error but if you messed up once you had to do the entire area again.

Next, the story. Not the most memorable and a bit predictable but it's serviceable. However, if you do read the documents there's quite a bit of character development and depth there alongside pieces of world building that are separate of the game's story. If you care about it at all, do read them. Plus the Croft Manor dlc adds a lot to the backstory of the Croft family.

Once you finish the game, there's tons of challenges to do. Most of them are good, if you enjoy the core gameplay this is a good way to extend playtime.

There's not much else to say really. Huge step in the right direction. Had great fun exploring and playing. Now we just need less explosions and more mystery. There's no need to fight an army and for everything to explode in the end of every Tomb Raider. Regardless, if you enjoyed the first game I can recommend at full price, if not wait for a sale.

This is the first installment in the Shadowrun franchise and the weakest one. The developers have improved a lot ever since. It's still enjoyable however but not recommended to people who are getting into the series.

    Pros:
  • Unique and detailed world
  • Story pacing is great
  • Steam Workshop
  • Alright writing
    Cons:
  • Too linear
  • Choices don't matter
  • No switching off combat, thus missions get extremely tedious

About the gameplay
It's xcom but worse. Serves its purpose but here's the thing. Combat doesn't switch off for the majority of most of the missions so you have to take turns advancing to the next areas. It's incredibly tedious and annoying, it doesn't become a problem until the last few missions however but keep it in mind. Customization is pretty bare-bones as well aside from the karma system.

Matrix is also a chore, understandable it's not good but the game forces you into incredibly long sections.

Now the story
It's intriguing at first, looking into the murder of someone is always great fun but gets really weird towards the end, typical shadowrun stuff however there's almost zero choices that make a difference and unlike the other games you aren't offered a big choice in the end either.

Characters range from meh to good with a couple of amazing ones. However since the game is short and pretty linear most are not as fleshed out as they should be.

You'll need to be into Shadowrun in general to enjoy this. If you liked the other games this is just more of it but worse. I suspect most of you know how that is.

At least the devs have greatly improved since they made this.

SR Hong Kong is the third installment to the shadowrun franchise and if you enjoy missing five 80% shots in a row this game is for you!

I suggest you go play Dragonfall first, it's an overall better game and it does a better job of introducing you to the world.
I also wanna add that the game got ten times the initial kickstarter asking price so it's even more of a shame that it has so many shortcomings and makes me question what the devs were doing.

    Pros:
  • Unique world
  • Great aesthetic
  • Steam Workshop
  • Unique sidequests
  • Mostly good writing
  • Decent music but few tracks
  • Different ways to complete missions
  • Matrix is an improvement over the previous games but not by much
    Cons:
  • More telling than showing
  • Way too much reading
  • Clunky matrix controls
  • Story pacing is awful
  • Long load times
  • Buggy mess
  • Too easy
    Bonus Campaign Pros:
  • Story is much better paced
    BC Cons:
  • Epilogue felt rushed
  • New characters pale in comparison to the main game's characters.
  • Too much forced combat

Lets get the gameplay out of the way first.

Combat. It's xcom but slightly worse. The focus of the game is the story, the choices you make and how you deal with the situations and the combat serves its purpose. In the main game, unless you go in guns blazing all the time, combat sequences are few and far between and they are just enough for you to test out and have fun with your new upgrades.

Matrix. Where your deckers (hackers) go when they want to hack into a computer etc. A smaller but important segment of the game. In the previous games it didn't differ much from regular combat but in this one you can actually stealth! That's a great change, however the stealth is in real time and it feels clunky as hell, there are no tiles so you can't precisely tell where you are going. On top of that the actual hacking part is just a Simon says and matching game, kind of disappointed there.

Customization. When it comes to skills, it's alright, you really gotta think about how you wanna go about your character, every skill point is important but when it comes to armor there's nothing but straight upgrades. There's some variety in weapons however. You can't really upgrade companions aside from two choices every few levels, you'd think in the third game they'd let you do a bit more but no.

And the game has tons of bugs, nothing really game breaking but it's good to save often just in case.

Now about the story... (Minor spoilers ahead)
I gotta say, while intriguing at first I was not impressed, Mostly because the game does more telling than showing. The walled city is "the most terrible place you've ever been at" but we never get to actually see that, prior to the final mission you only get to enter it once and it didn't make much of an impression.
The big bad didn't really feel threatening either because it didn't do much and despite the APB on the characters you're always under the protection of your fixer. There was an attempt to make the APB relevant but it was short-lived. Wasted potential really.

While all of the sidequests were brilliantly done, they could have included more main missions in between, helped keep things going. As it stands, after the introductory missions, you do five (or all) the sidequests then you move on to the final three quests of the game. That's it.
Lots of negativity about the story but it's mostly disappointment. Dragonfall had a perfect balance between the two and the main story was a lot more unique, so it's a shame the same devs are taking steps backwards.
The bonus campaign mostly fixes those issues but it's because it's a lot shorter. Not without its faults though.

Writing, it's good, most of the characters are unique and feel believable... however when you ask someone "how'd you learn to do this" and they give you their life story you know you've got a problem. Most of them were enjoyable (from the main game anyway) so I didn't mind but there was a lot you could cut out. The story of each character could have been distributed a lot better so you wouldn't have to read through a small book every time you returned from a mission.
Again, just look back at Dragonfall.

The descriptions also get really lengthy at times and were this a book I wouldn't mind but it's a game! Show me!

So yeah, I guess that's it, the world of shadowrun is truly amazing and these games bring it to life, I just really hope the devs learn from their mistakes moving forward but despite all that it was an enjoyable experience and I really can't wait for the next one (if there is one). You won't find almost any games that mix magic with technology so well.

This game will forever hold a special place in my heart. Definitely was the best CCG out there even if there were a few questionable balance decisions in the end. Very good business model and an insanely aesthetically pleasing game. I enjoyed every moment I had with this game and it baffles me how more DCG's aren't following this route.

Hopefully some sort of spiritual successor will pop up soon. RIP Duelyst.
