Highly recommended!

TRS2 is an awesome Isometric, sci-fi, class-based, cooperative PVE strategy game. The multiplayer (skirmish) feature of the game supports up to 8-player teams, you control a single "hero" in a fireteam who's role and combat suit are all of your design. TRS2 also has campaigns, which can be played cooperatively with friends as well.

I'm not sure what to call the genre, I think of them as "strategic RPGs." There's not a lot of games out there that offer the experience the Red Solstice series provides. If you played the first Red Solstice, or are familiar with some of the co-op maps from Starcraft Arcade or WC3 such as the multitude of NOTD versions, you'll definitely know what to expect from this game.

I put a lot of time into TRS1 (one of my favorite games on Steam), it stubbornly took me a couple years to finally give TRS2 a serious try. I'm only about 60hrs in and still quite a "rookie"--which is something I enjoy about this genre--the amount of game knowledge required for a good chance of survival in higher difficulties. TRS2 is definitely a bit more forgiving in this regards though, which I think makes this title more appealing to a larger audience. Some key differences that stick out to me immediately, compared to the first title:

- Fog of war <3
- In depth mission/session difficulty customization
- (Very) Dynamic suit/class build system
- Built on a modern game engine--extremely improved visuals and sound design
- Shorter sessions, on average 30-40 minutes in my experience (but can be longer depending on mission setup)
- Ability to hot-join games in progress (!!!)
- Mistakes and errors in game-play are a bit more forgiving
- Faster player revives
- *Very* easy-to-manage bot-players the lobby host can control, if you're lacking human-players
- New weapons, classes and skills (along with the classics)

My overall impression is that TRS2 favors action-oriented game play, over the slower-burn strategic feel of the first game. They're both excellent games though. I recently picked up the DLC as well, which I do not regret. For the amount of time I foresee investing into TRS2 and the entertainment it will provide, the store price tag is really quite modest.

I'm really excited to see what Ironward works on next!
