Payday 2 is an amazing game honestly. It always amazes me how I can just come back and have fun playing the game. The freedom in your character customization, build design, and the missions you can play is simply astonishing for a near 10 year old game. Plus, if you don't like something about the UI, bots, or missions you can mod the game to customize it to exactly what you want (highly recommend vanilla hud plus). I give a glowing recommendation for Payday 2. It's a must play.

The only real issue with Payday 2 is that the game can sometimes not run too well, or be a bit buggy. The mission design can also be spotty or samey across multiple missions. The stealth in the game is also pretty bad and frustrating without mods; however, some people love the stealth so to each their own. This is all overshadowed by the excellent balancing of the game though. It took a good while, but the difficulties all feel decent enough. If you consider overkill to be the baseline normal difficulty, the game scales up and down from there in a way that makes sense. Mayhem is a nice step up for those looking for a bit more challenge, Deathwish is an excellent challenge - not too hard and not too easy - and Death Sentence is a test of optimization with your builds and gameplay. While not every gun and build is useful above overkill, they've done a great job over the years at making sure most everything is useful on at least Mayhem without needing to be very optimized.

The customization aspect is honestly one of the main draws of Payday 2 in the long term. You can customize the UI, add in custom missions, customize old mission, make things easier, harder, rebalance the entire game - whatever you want to do, you can do it. I've always enjoyed trying out new huds, using quality of life mods, or customizing my entire UI experience. The modding community has done a, frankly, amazing job over the years. The mods add almost infinite replayability tot he game if you ever get board similar to something like Skyrim - although not as extensive.

Payday 2 is a fun game at the end of the day - if you enjoy co-op shooters. The game gives you the freedom to play how you want to play, a plethora of missions to pick from, tons of challenges and achievements to go along with them. It's no wonder that people who play the game get hooked for hundreds of hours at a time. If you haven't tried Payday 2 recently and given it a fair shake, you're definitely missing out.
