I played this game many times before owning it on Steam.

A very atmospheric and underrated ARPG. Take your time to learn the controls and you won't look back. Gothic 1 was, for its time, a very unexpected surprised both on technological (huge open world ready to be explored from the start, almost no loading screens) and design (day-night cycle, NPCs with their own schedules) levels.

At the beginning you get thrown off into a prison colony where the inmates took control, and the world really feels harsh, unwelcoming and dangerous.

The combat feels very clunky and somewhat unresponsive at first, but this is by design, since your character is not trained in sword fighting. Once you start leveling up and train your skills you'll notice the combat progressively becomes much smoother.
