It's a pretty fun game. Might be better with some friends playing as execs. The entire tech tree looks like a lot but its pretty shallow and horizontal. I feel like when it comes to RTS/FPS hybrids, SIlica, ARMA3, and Natural Selection 2, did it better.

I wish that Hello Games would release paid DLC. They deserve to be paid for their time with all these huge content patches they've released over the years. Take my money.

Game is just too broken and vulnerable to hacking to have a truly uninterrupted good time. I keep trying to give it the benefit of a doubt but the devs seem to be focused more on adding more half broken features instead of fixing what is already here. I'll change this as game gets fixed but this game is like my ex. She cheats... I leave. I come back. She cheats again and reminds me why I left.

I enjoy this game thoroughly... It's fun to play with my friends or to just hop in a lobby and make new friends as long as I have the time to invest in a proper campaign... I found a few bugs here and there which I'll send off to the devs including the session a buddy and I just invested 5 hours into before the game crashed and we lost all our progress.... I hope they look into that or some sort of stability as a whole.

Early Access Review
So…Though my profile shows me at 19 hours on this game, I started playing well before it hit Steam.

With that said. If you are reading these reviews before you decide to test a FREE TO PLAY, pay no head to these 4-5 hour playtime reviews… They know not of what they speak.

I love the game for what it is and what it used to be. The game is so smooth these days however; I do wish there were more readily available low-ping matches (USA West). I don’t know exactly how the server location is decided but before I complain any more, you used to NEVER find a single USA server. So I am ok where it stands at this point. (But would still like it either explained or fixed)
I DO NOT use the automatic matchmaking. I go through the list and find the first server that gives me the option to join. There were 4 matches I could join in the browser but the MM system still gave me a 5 estimated wait period. Again, I don’t know how this system is set up but it could use a looking at.

Back in the day it was SO easy and cheap (game currency) to hop into a tank or a plane and get started. If infantry was your thing, you could get AT grenades in just a few matches and with the limited FoV the tank drivers have, it was easy to sneak up and get two grenades on. There are free AAA emplacements on nearly every map… use them. It’s not as easy today, but not hard enough to rate down. Back then you also had a ton of kids buying pilots, jumping into your assault squad, and JUMPING OUT of your fighter planes to cap points… The price raise and the time it takes to get promoted to pilot DEFINITELY reduced these lil prick’s population in the skies.

I DO NOT agree with how long it takes to grind out General….I understand this was to prevent flooding of the map, and inexperienced players on the strategic side of things, BUT those of us who know what the hell we are doing, should not have to put that many hours in to get there. I’d much rather farm IN GAME CURRENCY to buy straight general than the XP. (If you can buy with in game already, ignore this)

I DO NOT agree with the maintenance upkeep costs. It is nearly more expensive to repair my gun mods after ONE match than it is to buy a new gun or car….wtf. I DO think you SHOULD pay to refill specialty ammo. This makes sense and ammo lasts for some damn time on your rifles (pending trigger happiness). But the cost of keeping your weapon at 100% is way too much to justify to us players… I’d like to see either lower costs or removal of upkeep. (Ammo excluded) I haven’t read anything stating that the condition of our weapon affects the efficiency of said weapon. If it doesn’t affect how your gun operates than take it out… if it does, lower the damn cost….please.
Vehicle maintenance is fine with me… This also makes it an investment if you want to pilot a tank or fighter, thus making the vehicle presence manageable. I MISS HAVING TO LAND AT HOME BASE TO RELOAD MY AIRCRAFT! (Where applicable) This was a great mechanic and took the planes out of the sky for some time. The reload time in air isn’t bad at all, but I’d prefer to land to refuel, repair, and rearm.

THIS GAME IS NOT A PAY TO WIN GAME! It’s a pay because I-don’t-want-to-put-any-hours-into-getting-what-I-want game. You can buy a plane and load out your pilot with more badass equipment than any para, a fresh player can hope into an AAA and blow you out of the sky/ parachute. You can go buy a tank… a low rank can grab 2-3 AT grenades and you are dead before you know he’s behind you. You can buy the biggest baddest LMG, you can be killed by any semi decent player with a primary. Some guns are better than others in certain situations… No one can argue that. But the guns are well balanced, If you stack damage on your sniper rifle, you lose stability, fire rate, range. It’s a give and take. And using a weapon for two to three matches in a row will unlock and allow you to start upgrading components. I felt like I unlocked every option on my Gweh before I even hit rank 2. (I couldn’t afford it because I died a lot but it was an option.)

Overall there are some things we had back pre steam that I’d like to see return, and others that the team has done a great job optimizing. There is no reason and no cost not to try it out for yourselves. If you are going to try it, give yourself some time to get used to the guns, maps, and mechanics of the game.

I’ll organize this a bit better, and update it later, for I am at work, hate starting something and not finishing it in one sitting, so of course my bladder filled itself as soon as I started…. Fml.

Definitely cannot wait for release or even beta for that matter. This Alpha has done nothing but wet my lips and hardened my erection for the next installation of the ARMA series. The domination game mode is even better than II and I have to keep reminding myself that the Island of Stratis we see now is only a fraction of the Island that will be released. I'm addicted to the RP mod "Life on Stratis" at the moment and there is an early release of ARMA III DayZ-Like mod cu rrently being worked on. The single player scenarios provide a decent taste of the main aspects of the game via, infantry, air, vehicles, and scuba diving. They are short missions but a taste is a taste and a craving for more developed. The work and dedication they put into these simulations is well appreciated.
