This is fan-made remake.

And a very good one at that. It not only ports the game to a more modern engine, which had been done before, but it adds the crowbar collective's own taste to it, and expands on the original game. The one thing I like the most about it is that Xen has been heavily expanded (there are inverted barnacles, for instance), and Gonarch's fight has been made much more challenging. Also the storytelling components are much more evident. In Black Mesa it's much easier to follow the story: to understand that there is a fight much larger than the protagonist's going on, and it is between humanity and aliens. To understand that said fight is turning sour pretty quickly... for humankind. Which highlights the pointlessness of trying to win a war with finite bullets against an enemy who can just keep teleporting a virtually infinite amount of "soldiers" (as showcased in the grunts factories in Xen). To understand the if we are to have any chance at all, we first need to close the portal, which shines a second spotlight at the military's stupidity in regards to how they treat BM personnel.

Gameplay-wise, they improved readability by making maps brighter and using a more vivid collor palette. But there is something off with the music. In the original, music cues in at the right time and it helps with the immersion. Here, it's often off-putting. Maybe it's just too loud, but somehow it had the opposite effect on me, pulling me away from the game. I turned it off. What certainly is mistimed are autosaves: early in the game there are some auto-saves right before a map transition, which forces you to load 2 different maps everytime you quickload, removing the "quick" part of "quickload". Later, some autosavess trigger when you have an assured or almost assured death, like when a greanade is about to go off in your face or when you are falling to your death. And it erases the precious autosave. I couldn't find a cannon way to customize the Xhair, which was present in the original with a much older engine.

But for me the worst change is that the tunnel headcrab doesnt fall in the canyon if you dodge it.

Bolas! Quem não gosta de bolas? Desde pequenos nós brincamos com nossas bolas! Pode-se rolar com elas. Rolar em cima delas. Pode-se cair na frente delas e senti-las rolando por cima das costas. E esse jogo explora alguns modos de brincar com a sua bola nos quais você certamente jamais pensou: que tal escalar uma pirâmide subterrânea "surfando" na sua própria bola? Ou ainda usar o peso dessa sua bola colossal para esmagar múmias raivosas e macacos soropositivos? Com certeza é o que existe de mais divertido para se fazer com bolas.

Actually, it's pretty much the same, but this one has a nice SP campaign as well as a few diferent MP modes. BTW if anyone wants to send me the 3rd one...

Both gameplay and story are mind-bending. Heck, twisting, not just bending. No, mind-♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ actually. It's very hard to define this one, but it is probably the masterpiece of indie games. You must play through to understand, and even then... well just play it and then you tell me!
