This is literally one of the first games I ever played. I was four years old.
Playing it now, after college, after moving across the country twice, after the extravagant cluster♥♥♥♥ery of this and the past decade--it feels almost like coming home again. I see old rooms from formative but hazy memories, and I know where the cybermen are gonna pop out, but somehow everything feels smaller and I keep getting pangs of sadness when I don't see floating-torso Darth Maul and Spaceman Spiff ghetto-hopping around the room with me.
"Family game" really can mean anything if your parents are cool enough. Leave a comment if you know where to find those transforming Robotech models.

Anyway. It's Quake II. The original game executable is still there for archivists and purists, but for casual players I see no reason not to just play the Nightdive remaster with harder/smarter enemies (Q2 was always a bit easy, and I say this as someone who could play it at the tender age of four), updated graphics (and graphics options), and some QoL features that weren't necessary by any means but quite nice to have. Except for the flashlight, that was a direct and objective upgrade.
