This is the best Elder Scrolls game, in my humble opinion.

It starts a bit slow and is hardest at the beginning, so it took a while for me to get into it (3 tries if I remember correctly!), but once I did - I absolutely loved it. My first TES game was Oblivion btw and Morrowind felt like it had everything Oblivion was missing.

Having said all of this, Morrowind is a bit unusual and has some elements that may turn some people off. I will briefly tell you about the major ones.

-------

Firstly, it has no map based fast travel. You can still get around very quickly, using transport NPCs and teleport spells.

------------

Secondly, combat works a bit differently than in most other games. You can "miss" your enemy despite the animation showing you've hit them, if your skills are low. That's because your weapon skills determine your *chance to hit* and not the damage you deal.

If you want to give this game a fair chance, at minimum PLEASE make sure to take the time to understand how combat works.

-----------------

Thirdly, this game requires a lot of reading and figuring things out on your own. There is no quest marker and no handholding. You WILL get lost and confused.

If you get seriously stuck, consult the unofficial wiki or visit my YouTube channel - I have walkthroughs for all factions and questlines.

------------------

Morrowind has far better writing than Skyrim or Oblivion (in fact, the Main Quest is one of Morrowind's best features), it has barely any level scaling (the most valuable items are all hand-placed) and the world is immersive, complex and alien. The game contains a lot of things that were later removed to "streamline" the series, such as: spears, levitation, teleportation, cast-when-used enchantments, medium armour and many others.

If you can get past the initial difficulties and the game clicks for you, it will for sure become one of your all time favourites.
