On a list of things I didn't know I wanted, Isbarah would no doubt be at the top. I love bullet hell games that require you to focus and memorize patterns, and this takes that idea and completely reimagines it. Everything about the game feels polished, and all of the visuals look crisp, clean, and sharp. In the spirit of bullet hell games it keeps you constantly in the action, with only brief periods of downtime between fights for a comicbook-styled storyline. As far as the flow of the game, it feels very much like Touhou. Most of your game time is spent in a fight, and in the event of a game over it only takes a few seconds to be right back into it.

The game has really tight and responsive controls. I've yet to have an issue with them, or a single instance of the controls being the cause of a death. On top of the normal dodging mechanics you'd expect from a game like this you are also given three abilities. The ability dash, which quickly sends you in a a straight line for a short distance. The ability to create a platform, which halts incoming bullets for its duration and can also be stood on. Lastly, the ability to slow time, which slows yourself and all bullets, which is useful for dashing through really tight spots, or placing a platform in the perfect position. Even with these at your disposal each fight still presents an impressive, yet fair, challenge.

The only thing that has been a downside to me with this game is that the railguns sometimes have a habit of floating away from you into nigh impossible to follow places. Not always a problem, and even when it is it usually just requires patience, but can be a little annoying when you have one left to activate and it just seems to flee to the most inconvenient spot it can. Again though, even when that happens it's still a matter of just playing it right and knowing where to go. Beating a stage is very satisfying, and clearing a spell without taking a hit even moreso. I very much recommend the game to anyone looking for something out of the ordinary, as well as anyone looking for a good challenge that doesn't feel cheap or unfair.

I got stabbed like 40 times in a cutscene and was fine, but then I jumped about 10 feet and died. Morale of the story is don't skip leg day kids.

I never realized how much I truly like roguelike FPS until I played this game. It's always fun, very rarely frustrating, and offers a great level of replay. There are some unpolished bits, but nothing game breaking at all, and really nothing that detracts from the enjoyment of it. The controls are tight and responsive, the gameplay pacing has a good variation and buildup to it. Starts off a bit slow, but before long the screen is filled with fast-moving bullets. The weapons all feel different enough that none of them are redundant, though sometimes certain weapons feel a lot less useful. The randomization is great. It's different enough every time to be fresh, but has enough of the same that you can generally know what to expect. Even after around 20 hours of play I still come across rooms I've not seen before.

The game is really simple. Pick up and play at it's finest. Can rush a playthrough in 20 minutes, or hang around and shoot everything and it'll take around 40-45. The most complex thing you'll find here is figuring out all the items and figuring out how to get some of the secrets. The dialogue is hilariously goofy and changes every playthrough.

Really the only complaint I have about this game is having a dry spell of bad drops, or having it put an extra-jump badge just out of reach, like it's just sitting there taunting me.

I definintely recommend the game. Tower of Guns is always enjoyable, gives a decent challenge, and has a unique charm to it I've not found anywhere else.

It's like Touhou, though there are no waifus.

Oh, and, the soundtrack is great.

Early Access Review
If you like Binding of Isaac and you like FPS, you will enjoy Paranautical Activity. It just doesn't get more pick-up-and-play than this; it's fantastic for 10-15 minute sessions. There are bugs from time to time, but it's in beta still, so that's expected. There has been one time there was a bug that made me restart, but I'm pretty sure that's since been patched. My only gripe about the game is some item abilities are unclear, but aside from that it's great, mindless fun.

Simple, lasting fun. Grab a buddy or three and this game has a lot of replay value, and is only as hard as you make it.
