Playing HL2 in VR is like being back in 2004 with how fresh the experience feels. I was so sucked in to the game that the only thing that was able to pull me out was my battery dying on my Quest 2. There are a small amount of scale issues (most of the interactable trash is HUGE but the people all seem to be about 5'6") and some slight jankiness due to it being a port of a 2D game but most of that is very minor and can be worked around via in-game options. Also a warning: You need good VR legs for the driving portions. I'm pretty strong on that front but I could definitely feel some oddness while driving the airboat. The controls are intuitive and navigating the world isn't difficult. Gunplay is good overall and definitely more challenging than the original game, making the original ammo limits seem way too low now (only 18 rounds max for the revolver is painful, for example).

Performance-wise the game runs very well on my Ryzen 5 3600, 5700XT, 32gb RAM system. So far I have had only a few hitches when there were a lot of bodies/physics objects in my immediate vicinity that were being moved around. The game is pretty old after all and not optimized for multi core CPUs.

Overall this is an excellent port of a 2D game and what's even more amazing is that it's free (you do need to own HL2 though). After only 2 hours of playing I went to the website and sent a small donation to the devs, which I rarely do, it's that good.
