Don't listen to the negative reviews
Yes, this game has a few issues, but they are nowhere near as bad as people make them out to be. I have played several of these cosy farmers now (including Stardew Valley). Plus, Friends of Mineral Town was my absolute favourite game as a child, and Coral Island can easily take on both Stardew Valley and the Harvest Moon franchise.

So why are some of the reviews so negative? The game released in November without the mermaid story line. If that is the ONLY reason you want to buy this game, then yes, go ahead. Wait until the story line has been added. If you have come, like me, to fill that void Stardew Valley has left you with, then Coral Island is a great option.

Features overview
Coral Island is a mixture of Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing, set on a fictional island. There is a big focus on the island's ecosystem and the player will find themselves collecting garbage and helping the villagers restore the island to its former glory. This will, you guessed it, involve offering items to both the Museum and the Island Goddess. So, start stuffing those chests with your collectables because you're going to need them.

The game plays like all the other cosy farmers. You can choose your own play style and focus on whichever element you like. If you want to ignore the main quest and just romance all characters, nobody can stop you.

But if this game is so similar to Stardew Valley, why should you bother?

Coral Island shines when it comes to character development and world building. Stardew Valley's villager are cute, but they don't reach the potential of the villagers in this game. Have you seen all those dating options?? You're going to have a hard time choosing. But even the non-dateable NPCs have great stories to tell. Kudos to the devs for paying so much attention to detail for each character.

Coral Island has a unique charm and if you like the art style and island vibes, then give the game a try. I watched a few YouTube videos before I pressed that purchase button, which really convinced me once I saw all the characters in the game. I just wish I had picked this game up sooner, but with the weather changing, this was the perfect moment to start playing this game.
