Dissapointingly hallow.

As a DC fanboy, I’ve been hyped for this game since it was announced. I went into KTJL wanting to love it. But I came out feeling empty.

To start, the way people felt about this game was solidified from day one, no one was happy with it. Despite the negative reception however, I held out hope. Back when the game hadn’t even released, and many elements of the story were leaked and people criticized the hell out of it, I was still optimistic about KTJL.
The circumstances sorrounding the build up to release were unfortunate. First, it was, like I mentioned, the story leaking early. Meaning everyone knew that the justice league were actually going to die (and for some reason, despite the title of this game, were surprised) and did not like where rocksteady was taking the story. Then it was the death of Kevin Conroy which people used to bad mouth the game knowing this was his send off as Batman, a mean spirited argument if I've ever seen one. And last, the many articles that came out criticizing the game all being done in bad faith talking bad about every detail that leaked, like the hud being too crowded for example was a big one. Like I stated preciously, despite all of this, I was still hopeful that rocksteady would deliver a banger. And I was mistaken.

I’ll talk about the combat first since I have a lot of things to say about the story. I’ll preface this section by saying I played through the main campaign as Captain Boomerang since I heard he had the best movement, though I imagine the rest of the characters vary little in combat diversity. The combat is actually fun. For being a looter shooter. It reminds me a bit of Doom Eternal, if DE had 1/4 of its arsenal removed. The movement is smooth and thrilling. You also have a variety of special moves in your arsenal. The big complain, aside from the something else I’ll mention earlier, is the gun variety. Seeing as there are only two guns you have at your disposal at any time, it makes the gameplay get a repetitive fast. It’s funny because the Arkham games which arguably have less variety in terms of what you can really do in combat, never got old throughout the four main games. And this leads into what I mentioned earlier, the gameplay gets old quick. This is in part because every mission, despite how it may be worded, is the exact same thing, shooting bad guys until you can do something or something happens. Also this game is laughably easy. Let’s go back to the Arkham games comparison. In those games you weren’t always doing the same thing in each mission, you were also sneaking around, doing detective work and many other Batman-y things that complimented the combat. Nothing in this game compliments the combat at all, shooting is everything. To end this section, I’ll talk about the bosses. Aside from story things I’ll talk about later, the bosses are bad. I was playing on the hardest difficulty available to me and I never died once, aside from Superman’s fight but that’s because I was ignoring very obvious gameplay hints. The bosses just repeat the same few, and I do mean few, moves until you kill them. I don’t have more to say about them because there’s nothing to say.

Now onto the very controversial story. I’ll quickly touch on the less important aspects of it and move onto the big issues. First, I really like the world building, especially in the context of this being the Arkham verse. Metropolis is great. I reiterate again, I was fine with the whole Killing the Justice League thing, as long as it was done right, and it was not (shocker). I'm not referring to the whole Boomer pissing on Flash or Lantern being in his underwear controversy as that's the kind of thing I expected from a Suicide Squad game. The problem is that the deaths of these characters are not treated with the gravitas they should be. There is no send off for any member of the League, aside from maybe Batman but I hesitate to call that a send off, and the second they die, it's not even brushed off, it's just not touched on in the slightest, like I get these are supposed to be bad guys but even then, I'd expect them to at least have SOMETHING to say. I couldn't even tell when I killed the bosses, they just die, again, there is no grandeur for anything. Then there's Brainiac. The fact that the final confrontation on the main campaign is fighting him as the flash (literally just reused the flash fight as the final boss) says a lot, seeing as he is barely a character. I don't have anything to say about him other than he was very disappointing. Sad seeing as he's the MAIN BAD GUY. Finally, the end was horrible. At the end of the story, they reveal that in order to kill Brainiac, we have to fight and kill 13 different versions of him throughout the multiverse, and once you kill the Brainiac in your Earth, Amanda stabs him in the head with something, the squad celebrate and then they're interrupted by Lex telling them they still have 12 more Brainiac's to kill and... cut to credits, no I'm not joking, the game ends and nothing significant happens because we have 12 other DLC's to promote. The only thing I can say I liked about the story was the banter between the squad, it got a few chuckles from me.

Overall, from the combat, to the story, to the characters, this game is empty. There is nothing substantial here that makes it worth playing. It's really sad seeing not only how bad this game turned out, but also how rocksteady's reputation was damaged. Not to mention the hole DC keep digging themselves in by releasing flop after flop. I'll wait to see how they wrap up this game, if they even do it at all, but I've learned from my mistakes, so my hopes are not high in the slightest. As much as it pains me to say, this game is not worth playing, if you really want to play it, I'd wait for a heavy discount because $70 for this is daylight robbery.

Final notes for DC (not like they'll read it): Please stop using the evil Superman trope, not only is it worn out, it's also the most boring thing you can do with this amazing character. Also stop making Superman villains Justice League villains (I'm looking at you Brainiac and Darkseid)

What a disappointment

The story in this game is really good, even if it is a bit short, the new characters are cool and the ending was incredibly sad.

The combat however... what were they thinking? This game is trying its hardest to be like LJ, and it fails in every single way. The launchers are very limited and inconsistent, and the air time of the juggle lasts for only 6 seconds.................. Why????? RGG also decided to remove enemy queuing, meaning that multiple enemies spam attacks while you're half a second into a combo, which is very infuriating and makes comboing in fights with multiple enemies basically impossible unless you spam a million Agent gadgets beforehand. Also the dodge in Agent is absolutely useless, it's pretty much the original Ishin's wildancer dodge.

RGG really fumbled this game. It is not worth $50 even if you exclude everything I said about the combat, get it on sale if you really must.

Pop-Cap never misses

For being a shooter about Pants vs Zombies, this game is phenomenal. It's a shooter with the charm of the original PvZ, what is there to not like?

Let's start with the campaign since it's the less interesting part of this game. It's kinda just there, if you're new to GW2 I guess it helps give you a feel for the game, and OPS can be fun at times. But overall, nothing too noteworthy. The world building here is very good. The backyard battlegrounds feel very alive, and have a ton of secrets to find and mini-games to play. Infinity time is pretty fun, though admittedly it gets old fast, and, if you get enough shards, you unlock party characters, so at least there's incentive to play it.

Now, for the actual meat of the game. The multiplayer aspect of GW2 is fun as hell. This is purely because of how much variety you have with the characters. There are 14 classes and more than 100 characters in total, each class has their own gimmicks and play style, and each character in those classes has their own gimmicks. And the game encourages you playing with multiple characters with the leveling and ranking up system. And the variety does not stop there. There's a multiple game-modes to play here. Turf takeover where one team tries to capture the objectives, and the other team protects it. Team Vanquish, where the first team to get 50 kills wins. Gnome Bomb, where each team has 3 posts, and the other team has to blow each of those up. Suburbination, where each team has to capture bases to gain points, and the first to gain 100 points wins. And finally, mixed mode where you get to play each of those. All of these gamemodes are fun and have something for everyone, whether you are someone who actually likes to play the objective and be a team player, or if you like to frag and get high kill games. The only real problem with these is that getting a proper lobby in anything besides Team Vanquish, Mixed Mode and Turf Takeover is kinda hard.

Does the game have issues? Yes. Certain characters are more annoying to play against than others, and on the other side of the spectrum some characters are useless. Some maps are not very good (looking at you Time Park), and you might get a hacker in your game once in a while due to this game not having an anti-cheat (why?). But overall, there's so much fun to be had in this game that those complaints are insignificant, aside from maybe the hackers that's very annoying.

GW2 is one of the greatest shooters ever made and it's surprising to see that, to this day, it has an active player base. I really hope this game never dies so I can play it forever.

LJ is an absolute masterpiece. To start, the combat is a huge improvement from JE. This game is pretty much Kiwami 2 in the sense that literally everything in the story is there to make the main antagonist a better character, only that this game manages to do it better than k2. I feel like i should mention the school stories in this because it took me the same time it took me to beat the main story to get all those school stories done so TL;DR is it's a bit hit or miss, some stories (boxing gym) can be absolute gold while others (take your pick) are just there, but overall I liked the story, grinding them was ass tho but I can't complain about that too much since it is optional. Lastly The Kaito Files was basically what the Majima Saga in K2 should've been, an actually interesting story. I really enjoyed the story and the combat was also really fun, so good to see Brawler and Beast being brought back again. This game showcases the godlike writing RGG is capable of and I really hope the next games in the franchise are as good as this one.

The best RGG game since Y0

I was super excited when Judgment was announced for PC and this game did not disappoint. The story is a tad slow at the start but it is worth it to stick around. The plot of this game is interesting and captivating and a ton of fun. The main antagonist, The Mole, is one of the best characters in this series. I don't know how they did it but RGG managed to turn a plot about a dementia drug and a pharmaceutical company into debateably the best Yakuza plot to date

Yakuza: Like a Dragon is a great continuation for the RGG franchise

This game has a lot of pressure. Seeing as this is the "next-chapter" in the Yakuza franchise separate from Kiryu, it has to sell us on not only a new protagonist worthy of carrying the next games to come, but also a reason to stick around for those next few games. So, does it live up to the high expectations? Mostly, yes.

The story in LAD is very good. Despite it taking MANY elements from Yakuza 1, I'd argue LAD surpasses 1's story (because this one's actually well-written). The way it unravels over time feels very natural. Seeing all the different parts of the conspiracy and slowly learning how they connect with each other is very captivating. However, what really makes the story surpass just being a regular Yakuza conspiracy, is the characters. This game's biggest challenge, like I mentioned in the beginning was selling us on a new protagonist, and it did that very well. Ichiban isn't just a copy paste of Kiryu, where Kiryu is a serious, one man operation, Ichiban is a more lighthearted and friendly fellow who sees the strength in numbers and heavily relies on them. The other cast-members are also great, they're all very vibrant and the way the gang bounces off of each other is really charming. And none of them ever feel out of place, because they each have or have had stakes in the story, giving them motivations to stick around (aside from Saeko she can feel pretty out of place sometimes). The Arakawa family is another standout in this game, Sawashiro and especially Arakawa, for having admittedly little screen time, cement themselves as great characters in the already great RGG games cast. Finally, Ryo Aoki is a phenomenal antagonist, up there with the Yakuza goats, Nishiki, Ryuji and Mine. Aoki's story is tragic, and, despite how evil they are, you really get to understand his motivations and why he does such evil things. That last scene between Ichiban and Aoki is also some of the greatest voice-acting I've ever heard. Despite his story copying a few things from Nishiki's, it's different enough to make it standout in its own way.

Onto the combat, it's not really my cup of tea. I really like the combat in previous Yakuza games, one of my favorite things was getting good at each game's fighting system. However, the turn-based system doesn't really have a learning curve, you just spam the most overpowered EX Heat moves and demolish every enemy encounter. I'm not saying it's a bad combat system, it's just not for me.

Like a Dragon is a good step forward for the franchise. There's a lot of potential going from here, and I'm sure RGG will deliver a arc akin to Kiryu's for Ichiban.

Yakuza 6 is a perfect ending to the Kiryu saga.

The beginning of the story is slow but it's barely noticeable thanks to the amazing cast of characters, mainly the Hirose family, keeping you entertained until ♥♥♥♥ hits the fan, no other yakuza game has made me properly laugh out loud like this one. The middle portion of the game is where things start unraveling. Around this point is where the main 2 subplots start to appear, these being the Saio Triad and the Secret of Onomichi. The game manages to go from one of these plots to the other seamlessly. While these 2 subplots are happening the main plot, this being Iwami's plan, also starts to unravel.

Speaking of Iwami, I believe he's a very underrated villain and the most underrated character in the franchise. I don't think he's up there with Nishiki, Ryuji and Mine but he still stands out in his own way. Iwami is one of those villains that you hate and want to see get beat up, and the game makes you hate this guy very well. People often say Mine is the evil Kiryu but I think Iwami is the evil Kiryu, both their stories are very much opposites to each other. Iwami is someone trying to enter the Yakuza world to gain power and Kiryu is someone trying to escape the Yakuza world because of his power, Kiryu had a father who got him into the Yakuza world, this father also being someone Kiryu loves dearly and Iwami has a father who won't let him into the Yakuza world which makes Iwami resent his father. Also speaking of parallels the way Nagumo and Hirose share their final moments is basically a one for one recreation of Kazama and Kiryu sharing their final moment.

The combat in this game isn't bad but it is lacking some things. However, this presents an interesting challenge and, like many games, you have to get good and really understand the mechanics to properly play it. The combat being what it is presents a fun challenge, which I see as a good thing.

Finally, I rarely mention soundtrack in my reviews because they're all great, but Y6 undoubtedly has the best soundtrack in the entire franchise.

The ending of this game truly is perfect and even made me tear up a bit.

Really fun game. Combat is fluid and very satisfying. What makes this game standout are the characters. Every character in this game is really fun and intriguing with their own little backstory that makes you question about their past. The best character is obviously Jetstream Sam and he even gets a dlc prequel that adds to his character.
