Early Access Review
The Day I Fought a Rat King (and Why Path of Exile 2 Gets My Upvote)

It was a dark and stormy night... cliché, I know, but it was. Thunder cracked like the heavens were slamming their keyboards in frustration over another nerfed boss fight. My PC hummed in the corner, running some idle clicker game while I fought a battle far more treacherous in my kitchen: an actual rat invasion.

It started with one rat. Harmless, or so I thought. Then another appeared, then another. Soon, I realized I wasn’t dealing with an ordinary infestation—I was in the presence of a Rat King.

The Fight

Armed with a broom in one hand and my honor in the other, I squared off against the Rat King. His eyes gleamed with cunning; his whiskers twitched like an exile preparing a meta-build. The battle raged for what felt like hours, the tiny beast darting like a rogue, evading my sweeps and lunging at my toes.

I began to see a pattern. The Rat King wasn’t just chaotic—his movements followed an intricate, almost rhythmic design. Suddenly, it clicked. I wasn’t battling a rat. I was fighting a metaphor for my own failings in Path of Exile: predictable mechanics I had refused to learn.

The Breakthrough

The realization was like equipping a legendary weapon with the perfect affixes. I started predicting the Rat King’s moves. Feint left, swipe right, tap tap—rat down. But the battle left me pondering: What kind of depth in a game could ever compare to the high-stakes, moment-to-moment strategy I’d just experienced?

Why I Upvote Path of Exile 2

Path of Exile 2 promises that same intensity and strategic gameplay, but without the risk of losing your socks to a rodent nemesis. Its revamped systems, deeper skill trees, and crisp new mechanics mirror that sense of mastery I felt defeating the Rat King. If you’re ready for a game that makes you feel alive in the face of seemingly impossible odds, this is it.
