Every homie who grew up watching Space Jam and isn't a furry can resonate hard with this one.
Hahaha meme's aside, what a radical little gem this game is. The vibes are stellar, the soundtrack bumps, the aesthetics are on point, and the gameplay is super fun and addictive. Haven't had a chance yet to sit down with some buddies and mess around, but I got sneakin' suspicion that will make the game even more baller.

When Fractured Daydream was initially revealed, it do not catch my interest much at all. I used to play the SAO games back in the PSP and Vita days. Good times, but even back then they weren't games I ended up diving into super hard. Fatal Bullet was always the standout for me. A real good time that one was. So of course when I eventually learned that good ol' Dimps, the team behind not only Fatal Bullet, but also one of the teams involved with Freedom Wars, were heading up this project, my ears sure did perk up. Kept my peepers on the game, and once early access dropped and I started to see more content on the game, I took the dive.
Starting out the game was definitely a rough time, at least for me. Been a real hot min. since I'd played an SAO game, and these games have always had a feeling of jank or awkwardness to them, A lot of that kinda stems from the intentional design of these games. But once I got the flow down and snagged up some characters I jived with a lot better, it clicked real nice. I'm a little over halfway through the story, and have dipped my toes into the multiplayer content (all of which has been a surprisingly fun time). Gameplay alone this bad boi is worth a pick up, but it'll also depend on your preferences on games. It's a very classic repeat multiplayer missions to get better gear and level those characters kinda game, which is a bit of a depeature from the SAO games I remember at least. And while even though these kinds of games aren't my cup of tea, I can see myself picking this up, having a solid few hours of anime fun here and there, and moving on for the day.

The moment I booted up Mask of Truth, I knew I was in for something special. It gave off a certain air or feeling that was very similar to when I first booted up Muv Luv Alternative for the first time as well, and boy howdy those feelings were not betrayed. What a beautiful, wildly fun, and heartbreaking journey this was. Many reviews I noticed echoed very similar sentiments to what I was wanting to toss into this review as well, so I'll just say that I 2nd a lot of the highlights of Truth that other's point out.
What I will toss into the thunderdome here is, while Mask of Truth continued that high bar already set for it's top tier VA work, amazing soundtrack (which they went above and beyond for the finale here), and stellar writing and world building, what surprised me the most was the creative liberties they took with the combat encounters. I won't spoil the goodies of course, but with the reintroduction of certain mechanics and setups for said combat encounters, the battles definitely became just as much of a high point as the story itself for me. The ending as well, was just the perfect bow that tied together what was a 150 hour journey from the start of Prelude, to the end of Truth here.
The entire package of Mask of Truth reminded me a lot of Xenoblade Chornicles 3. It truly felt like this was the developers swan song, like this was the last game they were ever going to make. What an unforgettable journey this was. Thank you Aquaplus, for gifting to our big blue planet here this beautifully crafted epic that you'd be hard pressed to find elsewhere.

A fantastic but very slow visual novel with a wonderful cast to take you through it's story.
Just like Prelude of the Fallen, the VA work is out of this world top notched, and is accompanied by a just as out of this world soundtrack.
However, just as the first half or so of Prelude is very slow, filled with mostly fun, comedic slice of life of moments with plot beats sprinkled throughout, Mask of Deception here is about 80-90% of that. The meat of the potatoes doesn't much show up till' the last 10 or so hours. So if the characters don't really hook onto ya, you'll probably find yourself struggling to get through it real hard.
With that said, it ends on a BANG, and does an excellent job of getting those hooks out for you to immediately hop into the next and final entry. Especially with the little post credit scene that plays with the absurdly out of left field beautiful song: Koi Yume -Dream Of Love-. God bless ya Aquaplus, I just can't put this series down!

What a wonderful start to a wonderful series I have heard nothing but universal praise from. Many of the recent reviews echo my exact thoughts on this title, so I'll just toss in some spark notes of the highlights for me.
The soundtrack and story are superb. The voice work in particular is some of the best I've ever heard. As someone who's been a big ol' anime dweeb since a very young age, and continue to watch everything with sub's till' this day, I was floored by the absurd level of quality on display here. The VA's OWNED their roles, to a degree I'd yet to experience before.
The gameplay, while simple and easy, got the job done. And for the more PSP/PS2 era level of 3d models, the animations were always a treat to watch.
And finally the ending, again was a big highlight for me. It was so beautifuly done and very touching, and had me damn near ugly crying let me tell you what haha!
Aquaplus, you've got me hooked. I'm in it for the long haul now. Can't wait to experience the rest of what Utawarerumono and it's prequel entry has to offer, and now I'm even more pumped for their 30th anniversary shindig. Can't wait to see what they've had cooking in the oven, and maybe even a announcement for an official White Album 2 release! Always looking to fill the ol' backlog with more legendary masterpieces!

Finished Alternative a couple or odd weeks back now, and just really had to let it sit in the ol' noggin' before writing up a review in support of this masterpiece of a series. However, there's just so much up there that really hasn't already been said before.
So what I will say is, this is a story I don't think I will ever forget. It's truly otherworldly how thoroughly realized this fictional world is, almost like this is an entire world with it's own history and events that actually exists. It truly feels like sitting down and experience a story that someone spent their entire lives imagining from the ground up. Though I was introduced to Muv Luv through the anime's, and had already seen the adaptation of Alternative, it by all means did not ruin my experience at all, which to me is truly a testament of why this piece of fiction has continued to be regarded as one of the best VN's still to date.
It won't be for everyone of course, as nothing is, but jee willy if you find yourself sucked into the world and getting attached to the wonderful cast of characters, you are in for a brutal, unrelenting, all gas no brakes emotional slug fest of high's and low's you'll be hard pressed to find anywhere else.

And just a quick little personal thank you here to the team behind this franchise. From the original author's and artists, to the localization teams, translators, and programmers who do what they can to continue to bring Muv Luv over to the West here. Muv Luv was my core introduction to the VN genre (after 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim) and it has cemented the genre as one of my go tos. And as a ripe ol' pre 30 year old man who's past 25 years of partaking in this hobby has never once even given the genre the time of day, it's truly a wonderful feeling enjoying something so new and foreign to myself so much. Keep up the great work!

A real stellar entry for Muv Luv, and a particularly wonderful insight into Yui's story and character. As the Muv Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse anime being my introduction to Muv Luv, is was great to see this arc covered in a much more fleshed out manner in comparison to the adaptation.
For the VN itself. coming off the tail end of Alternative, for me it took a bit for the characters to warm up to me. But the cast and the story being told definitely did just that. Loved getting a peek behind the nature of the political strife during the days prior to Kyotos' fall. The soundtrack, just like Alternative, was a slam dunk. And I really enjoyed the atmosphere and sense of dread and hopelessness this short story provided. You really get a deeper or different grasp of how horrifying the BETA can be through the eyes of someone that wasn't Takeru. Can't wait for more!

What an absolute treat this was. First full on VN I've dabbled with, and man what a bar to set. Didn't expect much from EXTRA going in, but gosh darn it was an absolute blast. Very pleasantly surprised with the quality of the VA's and voice direction. And the comedic bits got a respectable amount of audible haha's out of me. For anyone about to start jumpin' into the Muv Luv series, you won't regret it!

Feeling like a proud father out here seeing Armored Core not only back in action, looking and playing better then ever, but also doing so well for itself. I figured AC would do well, but sitting at a very positive rating at a phat 30k review account (at time of writing) is nutty. God bless ya Fromsoft, you made a dream come true for an aging homie.
