Maybe it was just the time and place, the era, but DOOM3 has always been on my short list of one the best games ever made. I have owned this on CD sense it first came out and have played through it several times. The newer DOOM games may look great and be good games but in my book they just don't measure up to DOOM3. Even after all these years and even though the mechanics are so basic, as a shooter, now in comparison this game still ranks as one of the greats for me.
At one time this game on STEAM required the expansion to run in full screen, but all those issues have been resolved by including all the expansions in this BFG version. All versions, add-ons, and expansions work perfectly If you change the resolution the first time you start it. I'm also pleased that this old game even though it says you must accept the 3rd party stuff it starts when you click play and there are no hoops to jump through every time you start it to play, you just play the game ... what a novel ideal in this day and age. On sale it's a must have. It may start out easy but when you get to the part of the game where you are going back and forth from Hell and back ... it can still test you as a gamer on one of the difficulties. Even after all these years when I do a play through I feel this is a game that all games should be measured by. If there is such a thing as a perfect game, this comes close, or is. When played in Recruit (easy) it really is from start to finish, it's doable and fun. Even the Bosses in the game are fun, once you figure out how even though the actual in-game mechanics are so basic it's fun to try the different levels of difficulty. It's just about the perfect length for a campaign, and the add-ons and expansions, again, are almost perfect. They expand on the story and lore and add just enough new stuff so as to be interesting but not stray from the original game play. As you can tell I truly do love this game. The only very minor knock I can even think of is there are one of two places in the game where you might feel you are just running in circles but overall the puzzle solving and the maze it creates is pretty basic and that only might be said of one or two places in the game. It was ground breaking when they made it, it remains a timeless classic, and reminds me of what games are really suppose to be ... fun. This game was made by people that actually played it and it shows. Playing it becomes a labor of love for me, never a task. It is one of the few games I play over and over and will replay on the different difficulties. In the end this review serves as a thank you to those that gave us this masterpiece because I'm sure most gamer's already are familiar with this title and have experienced it but if not if you are of a younger generation and even if the simple in-game mechanics and graphics seem out dated maybe you can appreciate it as a look at your roots as a gamer and see it as one of the reasons gaming has become the popular pass time it is today. If there ever was an example of less is actually more, as far as games go this might be it. I'll end where I started and if I could only have 5 games and no more to last me the rest of my days, this would be one of them beyond any shadow of doubt. And that's mostly because I consider myself a Flight Sim Player first and a shooter second. It really is a game that still to this day I measure all games by.

It's worth the $5 bucks I payed for it.

This game is just plain lame, far to depressing. Save your pennies and buy a Harley instead. I can't even pretend to give a heck about the loser in this story. I refunded the $1.99 it cost ... it was that lame.

I like this old game a lot, but the inability to save the game makes me play areas from the start over and over until I get pissed and have to quit for a while and come back to it. It can be very frustrating at times. So I give it an 7.5 out of 10.
I like to play this game for a bit after watching the movies.
The music and cut scenes, few that they are, carry it.
It still stands up well over time. (in highest resolution available 1024x768)
The story is OK, but when it gets into the spiritual part later in the game I find it kinda' tough going.
The lack of a weapon wheel, common in most modern games, kinda' hurts game-play, but I just usually duck, dodge, and dive my way through punching most enemies out.
That seems to be Indy's most OP weapon, his hands.
It's fun smashing pick up items over NPCs heads.
There have been a couple places I resorted to watching a walk-through. But just a couple.
I pretty much hate in game puzzles, but find these very easy and tolerable.

All I can say is you've got to try it for yourself after the 1.0 update. They added an impressive amount of everything. It's a complete game now. Buy it and try it, you've got 2 hours on STEAM. I was sold after 5 minutes. With this game you'll know if it's something you'll use in way less than 2 hours.

This game should have a warning on it ...

For serious Gamer's only.

You'll be playing with other hardcore players, you will feel like crap if you fail them.
You will face the brutal reality of your "Gaming Skills" for sure in this game.
Sometimes the truth hurts.
Practice makes perfect.
Perfect is what is required.

GET READY ends up being a very, very, good title.

Unfortunately this STEAM version has a few Bugs on Windows 11.
There have been a few missions that I had to trigger several times to get them to start, or complete.
The NPC sometimes just do rapid head movements instead of speaking or moving their lips. I just look at the ground or someplace else to get through that. The NPC also sometimes just walk off a Roof or a Balcony and hurt themselves and trigger a town full of NPC to attack.
I enabled the comments on this review for anybody that knows a fix to comment on the issues.
If I find a fix I will update this, or post a comment.

Even with the Bugs, this is still the best FarCry of them all. (opinion)

I regret just finding this when it went on sale earlier this year.
This would have been my pick for Game of the Year 2022.
A 12 out of 10.
An Island of tranquility in a Sea of toxicity.
Something very special indeed.

I could not get past the start up screen because the game was freaking out over my HOTAS setup. I tried everything to get get the axis assignments to a point to where I could play the game without success.
Without disconnecting the HOTAS the Mouse Pointer was just moving vertically constantly.
The VKB setup I was using has each component hookup through a USB port, they don't Daisy-Chain into the Throttle and then USB to the system. That gave me a choice between the Throttle or the Joystick, I never could bind the two.
It's an early access that I hope they keep working on, the more Flight Sims, Arcade or not, around here the better.
I'd say give it a try and see if it likes your Stick ...
I'm going to try this again at some point if they keep working on it.

No annoying puzzles.
Makes this the best Mass Effect of them all.

Best thing about these Sniper Ghost Warrior games ...
They practically give them away.
I picked this up for like, $4 bucks U.S. on sale.

Seriously,
Just put it on your wish-list, and it won't take long and it will pop up fore sale for less than $5 bucks. They do that all the time.
It's a good way to spend a rainy day.
It's one of those games for me.
All the Sniper Warrior games fall into that category, with me.

Given that, it's a real fun game that SUFFERS GREATLY buy not being able the save the game as you like. It's check points only, and not many of them. so it's pretty much launching it by the chapters once completed.
Many players believe the game is broken until they complete the PROLOGUE COMPLETELY, and have actually started the next mission (driving the Car) and then it THEN it creates the save. It's a bummer for sure, but "that's just how this game is". For a couple of bucks you get what has become standard fare for the franchise ...
A mix match of Deus Ex type sneak mechanics, the A-Typical spotting mechanics, and a fairly simple sniping shooting mechanics.
PRO's this title ...
You can GTA5 em'. You can run them down with the Car, and then actually kill stuff with the other weapons. You could maybe Rambo the entire game if not for stealth fails. It's a big change from the previous Sniper Ghost Warrior games.
I found just 4- wheeling the car around and causing trouble somewhat enjoyable.
