I first want to emphasize that this game is more of a sequel than a remake. I highly recommend that you play the original '97 FF7 on steam before you play this, or at least watch a playthrough as this game plays with the idea that you know the original story.

I see a lot of reviews from these past couple years saying that this game was a let down, claiming that this was a cash grab. These critics were expecting a 1 to 1 of the original, and while I can empathize with wanting a perfect remake, this game is far from a cash grab. What we see in this game is both a fix of certain story beats from the first game, as well as a expansion of ideas that the franchise has been trying to push forward for over 20 years.

The gameplay is top notch; Square has really improved their fighting gameplay since FF15. The story has such an air of mystery that makes you want to know more. Both for newcomers, who admittedly might be more confused then others, and for long time gamers of the series.

Don't let the haters say this game is something it's not.

9/10
