Warframe is pretty much as good as a free to play game can get. The monetization is reasonable, and progression is reasonavble, if heavy on wait timers for building weapons and armor. You have a limited amount of storage for items, which can be expanded with premium currency. IIRC, pretty much every item can be gotten without paying real money, just by playing, and trading with other players for parts/premium currency. The only items that are money only that I can think of are a few community-made cosmetics.

In Warframe, you play as a Tenno, and wear biomechanical armor called a Warframe with crazy powers. You can jump around shooting fireballs, or mind control your enemies, or summon tentacles from the ground, or any of a variety of interesting and diverse warframes. You have a variety of weapons, from standard ballistic rifles and shotguns as well as more exotic weapons such as bows, throwing disks, whips, energy weapons, living guns that shoot fangs, and even repurposed mining lasers.

There is a quite surprisingly well written story, with a variety of missions that show you the history and the screts of the Tenno.
