This must be the most sincere low budget game I've played on Steam so far, why this is laying out in the neutral scoring scapes me. Meaning no bullshot made me impressed nor overstated descriptions, but people complain when it is the other way around.

Here is a WYSIWYG case. There is no voice acting and plot is kinda simple but it works. Nothing special but creativity flows, specially in hacking and puzzles but gun combat lives the sameness. It's just a game, it does what it does, gameplay. Entertainment, killing time. Also, learn the thing about gaming: if there is immersion, the game is alive. It's also a relief at the same time, it means you can create games, assuming you got the juice even if it isn't enough and make a run for it in such a place as this.

The problem is that good ideas have already been taken so how to manuever? For some this might not be enough, so I'll be just advising those to look away if not, because you need to consider all this to have fun. Some can't, too busy with the obvious.

Creativity is not AAA graphics dependable. Sci-fi has this thing to boost imagination and this game really does it in an interesting way, specially above the skies. For the devs, I'll say they're on the right track.

There is no other way to say this but to start saying it; what a nice sweet tasty thing.

If you're oldschool or you're discrediting this age's pixelated games or even new devs, you're the gamer I need to talk to.

That's definitely a product you would see around the 90s like Another World or Flashback etc, when the narrative was complex but almost or totally visual. Like a mute movie. Meaning graphics are done like 16 bits era, when pixels were pretending to be 3D or pretty much like blender in simple vectors, possibly animated with other ancient sweet methods (usually done in the past to save memory) So... be careful, don't you say anything bad about graphics because this is possibly one of the main reasons people (including me) love this game so god-dieam much.

Pros compensating flaws

REVIEW UPDATED IN THE MIDDLE OF 2021 DUE CONTROL CORRECTIONS FROM SOME TIME AGO I WASN'T AWARE ABOUT

  1. That game does the same as the older action adventure RPGs did, games like Terranigma in particular, may remind some folks of Zelda's structural progress but the game is unique in its own right. The main character in particular got something unique too, little dude is just likeable. Or is it a little gal?

  2. The world is vaste and cool to explore, the eastern sunken ruins are probably the first choice of everyone to go play it thanks to some random dog at the square. The bad part is that the map screen has a confusing design at first, but you get used to its ways.

  3. Controls weren’t so responsive when it was released. It is much better now after years, they probably updated something in the meantime, feels much better now. When I have to fight hard, the game really wants me to become a faster-than-light ninja, but at least this time things won't brake amidst my pathetic attempts. It isn't that hard, you just gotta get used to think (prioritize targets) and to act fast.

  4. Music does much of the ''talking'' here and of course the artistic meanings like oldschool animes used to do. Games without written dialogue rely on it, music and other FX are very immersive from the first minute to the very last. I must mention here that NPCs and other characters are so frigging cute and all, even by just making sounds and not really speaking anything. The developer responsible for these little thingys design is possibly one very cute mother fakker I would like to date.

  5. This isn’t really based on @ss-leveling or powerups really, yet you still can work your way and find the upgrades. These perks/powerups could be a bit more rewarding for all the troubles you have to find them so I guess this is more up to a Metroidvania hybrid - if not, by how the world reacts to powers rather than demanding powers. The elevator riding reminds me of it so this is why I think about it.

  6. Exploration and discovery suits the gameplay. The order to go is purely based on what you can do. Your motor skills better be sharp though because some stuff was tough (but fun). I managed to take some crazy items even before having the crazy perks to own the crazy powers.

  7. Impressive visual creativity is sometimes blurred by lack of semiotic concordance in the plot. Nevermind. Wtf that even mean?

  8. "Standard'' level can be very hard for the distracted people, and you're somewhat tricked to take it the first time. I recommend taking the easier level if you're not up for challenges - But this is exactly where the fun-factor is, I’m just warning you because reasons. Just don't call that Arcade, this is not an arcade.

  9. Nice pixelated graphics without too much polishing which is good. Nostalgia attacks during cut-scenes and other animations.

Final Score: eight and a half, outta ten

ABOUT EMOJIS AND BACKGROUNDS AND CARDS (click the link to see them)

I love the material from HLD here on Steam and this is a very rare thing for me to say. The backgrounds and even the badges are just as nice as the style and colors of the game. The emojis are cute and the memory of it strikes back when you see it on the list. Cards are vivid. They still are worthy some nice portion of cents so nice they are, but most of the material is already getting very cheap, some are easy to acquire on the market.

So...

I really recommend you Hyper Light Drifter if you’re more up to a challenge, but there is something so lovely in there surroundings, it stays with you even years later after playing, like a good memory, good feelings. Waddaya know, some games from this century are already causing nostalgia in oldies like me - helping me getting rid of my preconceptions. I don’t just point out the pros and avoid criticizing things, so this is something here. I usually appeal to subliminal messages and lots of unwanted bull in the best of my s#tty abilities, so my reviews won't end up like IGN or something this way.

Anyway, go drift with the light, so it has been a great way to go fractal in this cybernetic fantasy world.

2 words, fun and arcade. Everything is cleverly designed to screw you and to surprise you, so it makes you remember about three things; those aren't just cool when it looks like an NES or A2600 cartdrige but also when it is hard like it was, and discovery feels creative and rewarding, each time. And you're going to have a lot.

Yea a red sheep in a blue sea. Problems starts in the same order as when you catch a cold in the middle of summer and the first thing is the runny nose and watery eyes, when you know you'll be fine only in the penultimate day?

- Got the game for free expecting microtransactions at some point in the middle. But a minute after naming my vault to number 10 (to keep with their hocus-pocus tradition) the game was minimized without my authorization and my browser went up straight to the store and to Fallout 4 web page. Couldn't you even wait greedy-boy?

- I was learning the basics, then this tutor-boy with a bipolar temperament that should be helping me eventually became very annoying. Even after turning him off he just couldn't cease to interrupt my game by blocking the screen to ask for paper. Curiously enough, ''B'' on Joystick is always meant for ''NO'', but there it was meant for ''YES''.

Don't click-bait my @ss so soon without seducing me first.

- At first, playing with a mouse was the proper way to go but after fighting with the screen edge I decided to use the joystick. But then after fighting with the dwellers selection I got confused. I saw myself in the embarrassing situation of playing with both controls at the same time. One couldn't fulfill the role of the other.

- Suddenly the zooming and the camera proved to be pretty clumsy, hud often disappears and you need that all the time. There is a command to show that but it just not practical without some sort of observation camera or neutral point. But as Kurt would say, whatever. Nevermind.

- The lack of comfort regarding general gameplay made me leave the game. I feel more content awaits, but not for me.

Maybe they didn't bothered in making this thing looking more like a PC game. Maybe I'm talking s#it, maybe this was probably meant to be more interesting with a g0ddamn cellphone to help selling Fallout 4 - Bethesda charges 229 bucks for it here when A³ games are around 100 - maybe they think its that much worth.

So no I can't see this as a PC game, I would rather PAY to have fun so microtransactions could be an option. Its just another money grab and another opportune advertising to push you into. I'll give them that.

Review: No wall to cover and distant camera remade the whole game, not just more hard like it was with Black. The target is much more stable now. This is Ubermosh series on nitric acid, super fun to beat and the music simply didn't worn off yet. Not for me.

Thoughts: Walter... you're on longe term trouble man. Your commitments literally have created a vicious circle to everlast impendin addiction. What?? The more you keep doing games like this, the more I want it - hence my previous censored comparisons, like dope. Where the hell will this lead us to? To unstoppable brainclap rage, unfair swarm, loose gunner paradise? God help us. Nah, forget him. I'll just find a Big ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Gun. Faster the better.

My wristle hurts, my fingers hurts, my hand hurts. Everything hurts, even my ego.
10/10 Original piece but based on Arcade roots. Hard is an understatement, and this is the ''easier'' of the series. The pace and the flow reminds me of Smash TV mixed with Cannon Fodder which had Space Mega Force babies and they had mutated relatives like Total Carnage. The diference is that you can't just be a powerup swapper and loose gunner. There are brillant yet simple tactical choices to make before you hit for your advantage, from swords only, Handicap balance and to gunner, these classes adds lots of fun.

A very important game to ever happen to the category on Steam.
I've found out that the game was made single handedly by the dev, and the music track was composed by the man! Music here is dope, the main star on my opinion pure and simple.

Game isn't stage based, which I have suggested to add in the past, this game can worn off quickly without that. As this is an indie game you should expect a bit lack of balance on combat, A.I. is kinda predictable at some point but It's pretty addictive regardless. I told people this game would have a future when it came out and I was right. Those things got fixed.

If you don't like Arcade, maybe this is your chance
You should also be looking forward for Ubermosh Black, Ubermosh volume 3, SwarmRiders that would like moving from sweet strawberry gums from here to red hot chili pepper. Hmmm tastes like the 90s. For some reason I like the main title, must be my 80s mode turning on.

Just make sure you got a fast DPI on your mouse and don't forget to cut the bullets.

If Fenix Fire really want to fully complete this game, we need the old OST back to the game, of course keep with the new stuff and work out the 2016 road map. If the game has changed directions or something else internally, just hire or cease with the separation and get back to work, remake the contracts, I don't know just do something. Veteran players still miss what have been ditched. They're trying to come back very slowly, but something is always down or off, development feels unstable for some reason. Like travelling between planets had no loading screen, but now it has back again.

We need critters, the neutral animals back and more. Caves need to be as complex as the surface, NPC are also needed to at least give parallel objectives for the players to follow (that idea seems to have been scratched too). It needs to be more unpredictable. I can see Site A and other planets have been added again but the old map design gave more attention to details. I'm glad the game is now more scientific and palpable as ever before, so thanks for that, but a lot still is needed. If the devs pull this off, then I deliver a proper renewed review. Remember; Osiris was the most alien worlds to ever show up in any game. I could care less for sci-fi survivors out there because Osiris was just special.

The old concept managed to give us this impression due the hostility from weather to enemies, but the game was still beautiful somehow (graphics are aging bad, it has been 7 years already). They added dust storms for example, so that's also great, but other planets still need the same treatment as the first one, creative ways to punish us regularly. If someone can't play it, just put it on easy. We now have bars to adjust things so that's a big plus. They also added space station to be built, regardless of how useful it really is. The punishing hell the planets are, should be always the focus like it was before, by default.

Here's hoping the devs will never ditch things and the game will really take-off the way it was intended some day.

Say what you want about Ubisoft all time bullcraps, but they were always good at creating immersion. As far I can remember, from the first Prince of Persia to Assassin's Creed 1 and Black Flag on my gaming life, I wasn't myself playing those games. I was every character on its respective age, settings and enviroments and only Ubisoft really pushed so interestingly. I didn't like the graphics on FC Primal and I'm running that game on Ultra. But when it comes to action and stealth it is just fun, if you're up to some Turok gameplay. If you're lost, maybe a bit of Ark somewhere but that's an understatement. Also I didn't like the exploration much, but you're so busy trying to survive so this saves the whole thing. Objectives can vary from nonlinear to purely linear but I can't complain. I think Primal deserves another chance to grow even bigger, like the original FC did... for best or for worse, but from Ubisoft I never know what to expect so I better cross my fingers.

Proto-Indo-European language was an perfect call and also the body language, totally translates how a 10000 B.C. human would so naively think and talk. I don't just like that game, I also like the idea.

New review
Last time I did this, I said I would come back if things changed. I ranted about haters using guerrilha tactics to bring reviews down. Some of them were honest about their disappointment but the majority were just complaining with verbal aggression and lacking of basic conjecture. After a couple of months the game received lots of updates and I thought I should share the current situation, for those who are interested. Haters will be interested on it too, they believe they can send the devs some sort of message by thumbing things down. When you don't like something you don't need no hate, that's pretty immature.

Dialog
Best in the series since, ever. When evolved (in-game) those dialogs can become complex and very fun, you don't just ''navigate'' through it you actually have an active participation with the best scenes, with consequences. Several bugs have been corrected, I couldn't find those on my second play like I did on the day one release. This and the techno-melancholic musics delivers such immersion, this is a futuristic dystopia. Only the remaining CTDs can brake them. They fixed a lot but it stills a little unstable. Of course the first Deus Ex mantra about conspiracy theories and legendary scripting will forever be the cult one, but it can't be the best forever. My guts tells me the next Deux Ex will remember more about taking that back.

Action
I don't remember when was the last time I saw such weight and realistic recoils with guns. To name a few, F.E.A.R. and Rage but this game did it great with it too. Reminds me a bit about Perfect Dark's creative second modes of gun firing. You won't have a Doom-like arsenal, this goes from basic pistols to grenade launcher and rifles. All going through SMGs, a sh*t load of tactical grenades and you can get to upgrade all guns to your likings. A.I. are a mix of geniuses pressing you down and making ambushes - at the same time they're glitched dumb-f*cks stucked on the wall.

Stealth
Most don't realize this is an RPG and action isn't possible all the time, of course many won't be crawling through ducts and dark alleys and subterranean systems just to avoid confrontation, but it is fun and useful. It is possible to not kill a single one on the entire game, with consequences. But doing so is hard and will take lots of time and humans are impatient these days. So the most wise solution is to vary with the situation. Before Splinter Cell I never saw such good cover and stealth systems before. And I'm doing that for a entire decade so that must be something.

The Breach
Another toxic propaganda victim. There you have this arcade pace gameplay and not without some plot, this immerses you even deeper on the Deus Ex universe, interacting with the game. This anti-Deus BS tried to make The Breach looking like some poor cellphone app, a very sad statement coming from people knows nothing about it. I'm not saying people SHOULD love it, but when you hate it, you must elaborate all problems... Nobody did that.

The only thing I hate is the amount of childish hackers modders messing with the hi-scores. Go ahead, miss the point, so you can feel special. For the rest of us grown-ups we can always compete scores with friends we trust, it was very fun for the time being.

Microtransactions and all the rest

  1. In Mankind Divided, as long I'm aware, you don't buy Praxis in the middle of the game - there is no danger to brake immersion with microtransactions in the middle of some cyberpunk investigation and you don't need to grind to have Praxis so gameplay wasn't compromised by it. Yet, I still don't like it because I can see where this can go. I just hope future generations can still understand that having an item after challenging is better than having it after transacting.

  2. Many didn't like the story, but I did. It wasn't short as the bad propaganda led me to believe, it was just right. The story is perpetually sad and strong, I think that's why many rejected it. Feeling of guilt and psychopathy runs wild these days.

  3. Sound effects are great, graphics are very good but I can't still run this thing on ultra with an GTX 970 and I7, and a buckload of ram. I can only go with 60fps when ''high''. This is the future, you can't scape that. Go complain.

Final Score: 8.5/10

It was an great experience, not an always perfect one. Better to appreciate what it got done right, it is a very good game I highly recommend if cyberpunk is your thing.
