I only read a couple parts of your explanation in respect to your effort, I know how it is when you want to say something to someone but there are no clear means. With me it is safe don't worry.
I've lost "friends" over this, popularity too, but I will never lose myself. That's what's important. You should consider doing a review yourself if not already and share.
Oh, as an addendum, people who insult you for not liking a game that is made by renown people are people who are a bit too biased for their own good.
I do not believe one can truely be unbiased but it certainly helps to detach the work from the artist to judge it by its own merit.
Then again, fanbases are always a little bit difficult to interact with, no matter if games, music or even just people who are part of a certain culture. But that is a different topic all-together.
Again, thank you for the review, it was an informative read.
In my opinion, Death Stranding is a very unique game in the landscape of an oversaturated market of videogames that are derivatives of each other.
A fresh breath and quite an experience. But absolutely not for everyone due to its slow-paced nature and the rather odd way of how things are presented.
Personally I think it is a great game that has flaws and concepts that could have been explored better, but I still consider it one of my favourite video-game experiences of the past few years.
I was not hyped about the game though so I went in without any real expectations as I tried to keep myself from being spoilered by reviews etc.
This is why I have only read your review now after I finished it approximately 2 months ago.
Point 14, you do meet AI Porters in this game but they aren't particularly interesting.
They do deliver from A to B, you sometimes meet them when approaching a location or even out in the wilderness. They hand out free goodies for you if you hang around for a bit and you can greet them, they wave at you. You can also accidentally run them over which will deduct likes from you, or attack them, but if you end up killing them you will have to deliver their body to an incinerator or you'll cause the void-out that everyone fears so much.
There is a bunch of other stuff in your review that I disagree with but all of that is too much to address through a comment. And I do not know if you even care about discussing this.
I do not know how much you remember about the world of Death Stranding but you might remember that it was established that Chiralium, this golden crystal matter that sometimes manifests on the ground and that falls from the Clouds is a matter that is resistant against timefall.
All the buildings in this game are coated with Chiralium, which is why the timefall does not have such a strong effect on buildings. But it is mentioned that said coating has to be re-applied every now and then because it corrodes.
As far as using a hoodie against timefall instead of a helmet, I do not believe it matters because the material does not really matter. If you meant that he gets splashes of timefall on his face, that is a reasonable argument and I could not really find an explanation for that either. But there are a lot of things in this game that are a little bit odd and could have been explained better, or set up in a different way.
I generally recommend maxing out all porters to 5-stars just for the sake of learning more about the world. In fact, I really like that information about the world is "hidden" in these mails (and audio-logs in Metal Gear), its an interesting way of telling more about the world and its inhabitants without bothering people who do not care about this by shoe-horning it into dialogue and cutscenes.
I would also like to mention that the information presented in these mails is not 100% reliable because people only tell you what they believe to be true. There is quite a bit of stuff in these mails that is revealed to be a false conclusion or assumption as the game progresses. I really like that, it feels very human.
Sorry, I have to split this apart because of the character limit.
Good review.
As far as your argument for Timefall goes (Point 12 and 13 of the things you do not like), information about this is stated in the mails that you receive when you continue delivering to Stations and Preppers and in interviews that you can sometimes find if you find these memory shards.
No hate, only disappointment. Mainly against the community that accepts everything so easily. I won't like things only because someone good did it. If games resonates with you, then yes it is good.
