Good: All the game art in one place. Its beautiful. Some promo work too :)

Missing: Anything other than finished game art. I would have enjoyed early designs, things that didn't make the cut, that kinda stuff.

If you are looking for humour, roleplay, wit, flair, freedom I would not suggest this.

Update: I was a bit bitter at the time I stopped playing and I went for a short review rather that a rant. But given that a review supposedly should help here’s the points:

- I stopped playing after 10 hours. I restarted 3 times. I felt I threw 50 pounds down the drain and didn’t feel like throwing 50 hours of my life along with it on the off chance that the mind numbing boredom went away. If you’re one of those people that think I should lie on the torture rack for at least one proper torture session or else not express an opinion... sorry. 10 hours is more than enough time for the devs to get my interest. That said:

Pros:

- Search me

Cons:

- Lacks humour. One step further lacks character, passion, a spark that will hold your interest.
- Lacks roleplay. The characters personality is set. Think Geralt from the Witcher. You may get to make choices in some quests but you are who the devs say you are. In this case: generic boring nice guy.
- Combat: ridiculously easy or ridiculously tough. Without even changing the difficulty setting.
- Companions: Forgettable.
- Areas: On rails. You can’t get off THE path.
- VA. I’d pay the man to shut up.
- Glitter, shine, wit and swashbuckling of the era: Non existent. Some clothes. Maybe.

I am torn. On the one hand I have been laughing for 6 hours and very, very much enjoying myself going through Rumple’s route. Hes the flirty and funny harmless typical dnd bard type. I am extremely entertained and in a great mood all because of this game. And yet my love interest just died tragically so why am I laughing?

So Ill roll a d20. Over 10 Ill recommend, below 10 I wont.

It’s beautiful. It’s hilarious. It’s badly written. Play it for fun. Don’t play it for story quality.

Now for my pet peeve. I tried to understand the pattern here. What do you have to do to get a good ending? Here is the answer in a nutshell:

Girls that flirt with men get punished, ok? The devs probably have names for such women... tut tut. So pick a love interest and avoid them at every turn. Dont look them in the eye, dont talk to them, dont accept their gifts, slap them etc. I'm not exaggerating here. I checked Rumples 'correct' choices. You get the drift? Be a good girl. Dont be a wh-

If you do play though Rumple is hilarious! Loved the guy :) Just headcanon your own ending like I did and enjoy!

This game was talked about as a good game a while ago. It is not. I am updating my review to a calm and rational one.

- The combat is absolutely horrible. I quit the game because of how horrible it is. Kill me now horrible.

- The terrain changes in combat. Say you cleared the corridor behind you and carefully approach 3 guards on the bridge. Great you think, you’ll use your tank to block the bridge while positioning your rangers- To hell with that! It changes the terrain and you’re standing in the centre of a hall, guards coming from all directions flanking your rangers, there’s doors where there weren’t any, there’s waves and waves of guards not the 3 standing on the stairs. I CANNOT EVER BEGIN TO.... Tactics? Are the developers joking? What tactics when you change the playing field and transport me to another area FOR EVERY SINGLE BATTLE. Not to mention the opponents coming out of the woodwork.

Well... I am being reasonable this time. But it’s too horrible to sugarcoat it.

Also if you are making a point of the tower being upside down -which is cool and I was really looking forward to- do design the tower to ACTUALLY be upside down. There is apparently an explanation for this that gives a distinct want-to-have-pie-and-eat-it feel. Yes, it is upside down. Yes, the keeper of the tower said you're walking on the ceiling but... the keeper magically shifted the interior layout including said ceiling. Yeah. Sure. Whatever. You just try to impress and then fail to deliver. Sorry.

I tried playing on story mode to get the battles over and just see the plot, but they won’t go fast enough and I got extremely bored.

Lovely. Relaxing. Enjoying playing it on repeat. Great job!

Except for track 17 which I removed.

2nd run update: I loved it. Its not perfect, there isn't an objective reason as to why I loved it, but I did. Its sweet and has soul. I especially liked playing an older character with a family of his own, health issues, responsibilities etc. I connect more to it.

Original review: Fun game. Might write a better review sometime. Some nice surprises, some touching an sad moments, a villain you really get to hate and Cedani! Really cute character and really cute pets.

Finished in 6 hours. Will replay though.

Great music BUT seemed to me like they need to work on timing the right track at the right time.

Well, well. To start with: Stunning cut scenes! I have more screenshots of the cut scenes than the game. Their beauty aside, and my wondering how much work the developers put into this alone, they could have combined the amazing graphics with a more fascinating narrative or maybe some action or story progression. As they are, they seem like the National Geographic travel guide to the Heretic Kingdoms.


Pros:

-Fun gear, simple leveling, pretty good combat. Started enjoying myself mid-game, planing out my gear.
-You can restat at any point and it's pretty cheap. I really liked that.
-Decent story. Quite original way the party comes and works together. Have not seen this before. Just for this, its worth buying the game.
-Some humour, its not as depressing as it seems.
-Good ending for ME.

Cons:

-No replayability. Sorry devs but 10 choices and one extra map do not justify repeating 30 hours of dungeon crawl.
-No real roleplaying options. Theres 10 places where you can be good or bad. Thats it.
-Backtracking to pull levers, that open doors you've already reached.
-I have never, ever used youtube guides this much for a game. But most puzzles of may be skipped, they usually just give additional loot, nothing more.
-Absolutely horrible inventory and selling system. I think they tried to innovate. Instead they wasted my time.

Weeell... recommended for an old game to pass time. Won't rock your world. If you got anything better to play, go play that.

Since I play for the story here's my story opinion:

- Linear plot. If there's 4 monsters, there's 4 areas. Grab some gear and enjoy the run.
- Companions. I may have missed this but they can't exactly be controlled. They do what they want based on your lose directives. Sometimes you wanna kill them yourself.
- Bad, bad writing.

Aribeth's boyfriend Fensomething was in my opinion an innocent and gullible dummy. For some reason, they hang him for his well intentioned mistake. Given that it happened in a cutscene nothing I could do about it.

Aribeth COULD do something about it, she's really high up there in the government and she does nothing. Then she spends the next chapters crying about her poor Fen, for no reason I could understand. If she thought he was guilty, whats her problem? If she thought he was innocent, why didn't she do anything about it as a paladin? So she mopes and sulks and mumbles. Bad drama. But my paladin was too polite to tell her to shut up. As a player I'm sighing and clicking though.

THEN she turns evil. You know. Cause she was hurt, wronged and... and whatever. I assume the player was suppose to pity her? Sympathise somehow? While she's standing in a room with impaled people and corpses at her feet? Right. I just told her to draw her sword -interrupting her sob story which I didn't give a damn about- and finished her off. I had enough crying and complaining to last me a lifetime.
