This is the game that basically started the space 4x genre. Games like Stellaris, AI War: fleet command, endless space, space empires 1-5 etc etc are all based heavily on this game. This game was effectively concurrent with CIV 1 and in the same way was the blueprint for its genre. In a lot of ways I find it more enjoyable than the modern titles. The game is technically simpler than the games that succeeded it, however like chess or go or any other seeming simple game it has a richness of depth that shows through in actual gameplay. I don't know if nostalgia is required to enjoy this title, but I would definitely suggest people check it out anyway. This is one of those games that you can lose an entire weekend to without any regrets.

I was one of the people who returned their US preorder of this game when i saw the european reviews of it. I was completely livid. I refused to ever buy or play this game. Its not one of the better space games out there and I really enjoy it, it seems like they've met virtually all their original promises and then some. It actually does feel like a spiritual successor to games like freelancer, and I've been having a lot of fun playing it.

This one is interesting, it was a bit of a long road getting to it, i played kingdoms and castles and then rise of ruins and enjoyed both. I kept looking for "games like" and this one kept popping up but I wasn't keen on the whole zombie idea. I decided to give it a shot because someone I know said it was pretty good, and I wasnt disappointed. This is one of those games where you will lose a lot of sessions before you start winning them but for me it didnt get stale. A lot of it is about efficiency, choosing the locations of your buildings and the layout of your settlement is vital to your ability to properly survive the waves. Theres a lot of little efficiency tweaks you can come up with and honestly its very similar to factorio in that way but without the need to have microsoft excel open in another window. I would suggest this game for people who like Factorio, Rise to Ruin, Kingdoms and Castles, or anything in that vein.

Honestly I really like this game, and I notice it gets a lot of bad reviews due to its simplicity. For me its something to do idly while I listen to pod casts or do other stuff that doesnt require my full attention. Its very simplistic but theres a certain complexity that does arise when you try to actually min/max your town and make it as efficient as possible.

Cons:

Recommending this game as a social experiment

Really upset that I got this. I was playing rainbow six and thought this would be more like a full cost version of the same type of game, more depth some open world, but plenty of stealth combat action. Unfortunately this is a grindy MMO with an aiming/gunplay mechanic on par with GTA 5. Its all about minor incremental upgrades to equipment, grinding out currency and xp, etc. I'm sure its a great game with a target audience that will enjoy the heck out of it, but advertising it as a Tom Clancy game doesnt really make a lot of sense. I don't know of any other Tom Clancy game where you have to magdump your SMG point blank into someone's head 2 times to kill them while WoW style damage text comes out of them. I thought this would be a tactical/stealth shooter but its definitely nothing of the kind.

If you're looking for a fairly generic shooty semi-MMO this might be for you, but its basically the least interesting parts of cover shooters and mmos combined into a fairly buggy and graphically uninspired game.
