Wow…just … wow

I’ve played games that have moved me, made me cry, stuck with me but this…this is a whole other level. I played the original fairly recently, leading up to the release and enjoyed it a lot. I wasn’t sure what to expect from the remake, my only comparison for expectations being Resident Evil 4’s remake treatment. But was excited to see how the original translated.

My expectations were blown out the park. I was completely in love with this game from start to finish. Absolutely floored. I don’t think I’ve ever played a game quite like this and I wonder if any other game will ever capture the emotions I feel towards this game and how I felt throughout.

In terms of remakes, whilst my list of remakes I’ve played is short, this is probably one of the best remakes out there. It is devoted to its original game whilst also bringing something new. The best way I can describe it is OG Silent Hill was a beautiful painting but on a smaller canvas. They now have a bigger canvas and are free to take their painting and blow it up in size and add more depth to it. Whilst staying true to its roots throughout, it vastly expands on things to a deeper extent.

The sound design is absolutely incredible too. In my first play through I felt so on edge, constantly. I felt like whilst I was calm, I was never fully relaxed. And I liked that. This game kept you there. Every corner, every doorway, every step I took was placed with caution. I was jumpy throughout and I loved that. Even when there was nothing, just complete silence. I was scared. This was also enhanced by the incredible lighting and environment designs. Sometimes it felt like I was listening to the walls themselves breathing. Nowhere ever felt safe or like you were ever truly alone. The score and sounds felt so nostalgic too, even if I had just played the OG recently. Everything just felt so true to the Original. Creating not only a beautiful love letter to its original roots, but allowing it the space to blossom and really take these concepts and designs and just turn the figurative volume up.

I cannot recommend this game enough. I have really been sucked into the Silent Hill franchise recently but this game just solidified my love. It’s all I can think about right now. I really hope they consider approaching other games in the franchise. But Silent Hill 2, you will always be iconic.

To the devs and team behind this game, thank you. You are all absolutely incredible. This truly is one of the best games if not THE best I think I’ll ever play. Genuinely. Game of the Year I’m telling you.
