This game should not be sold on Steam in its current state. You will most likely not be able to get it running on modern hardware. Such a damn shame.

I wish fast travel was accessible everywhere and/or that there were less large empty areas to backtrack through. The stealth sections were also largely unnecessary, but luckily they're not too numerous or difficult. Those minor issues aside I think it's a fantastic game.

It's good fun if you like boomer shooters. The gameplay is quite simplistic and even the highest difficulty isn't that much of a challenge, but the power fantasy is nice while it lasts. All the guns feel satisfying and powerful and ammo is never an issue. The music seems curiously utilitarian. It's fine but nothing to write home about. The only real negative is the performance, which is all over the place, seemingly regardless of settings or your specs. I wish they made this in a proper retro engine like Gzdoom instead.

Why didn't Valve release this in 2019?

The only way I got the game to run with more than 40-odd fps was by enabling 'fast' vsync in the nvidia control panel and even then it was a stuttering mess. You'd imagine an RTX 3080 would have no issue running this game, but nothing seems to work.

The final cut replaces previous voice lines with new performances. Please give us an option to play the game with the original voice over.

Otherwise the game is still fantastic.

I don't say this lightly. Rain World is the greatest game I've ever played. No other game has ever stuck with me quite like Rain World has. It is undoubtedly obtuse and difficult to a fault, but see it to the end and it'll leave you dumbfounded.

What a fantastic game. Had me hooked from start to finish. Many scenes are surprisingly gruesome, so maybe think twice if that sort of thing is not your cup of tea. Otherwise heartily recommended.

If you're a fan of metroidvanias or Dark Souls, you'll want to give this one a go. The art and the atmoshphere are truly phenomenal, and the gameplay is fun and challenging without being unfair or particularly punishing (unless you're going for all the achievements - 100% game completion is doable, but some of the cheevos are just sadistic). My biggest issue with Hollow Knight is that the Dark Souls thing can feel very familiar if you've any knowledge of that game's lore. They could've maybe tried to further differentiate themself from their source material. All in all that's a very minor gripe that does very little to diminish the experience.
