This whole series is awesome in my opinion. The second game was a little weaker, plus had an awful ending. But the devs really seem like they're hitting their stride on this 3rd one.

Absolutely. All 3 games are totally stand alone as far as the story goes. The only common thread is the Curator who is just kinda like a narrator between acts. But nothing story wise relates to any of the previous games.
