It's an addictive masochistic hellscape filled with a toxic playerbase and overpowered heroes. But the gameplay itself is good and fluent and you'll find a few gems of players that are actually nice every once in awhile. There are no other games that have combat like it, I guarantee it.

Heroes are atrociously balanced, but it has been getting better. Most heroes are sitting in A tier about now, and Ubisoft has been slowly reworking every hero into about the A tier range.

Expect people to constantly talk about how unfair or OP another hero they're playing against is and then turn around and use the same hero and pretend they aren't being a hypocrite.

I'll give some tips for finding some non-toxic people and keeping the toxic people away:
1. Don't respond to toxicity obviously, like just flat out say nothing, no matter how tempting it is. They'll give up eventually after not getting any reaction.
2. Say "Good Fight!" one time after each fight, kill, or death.
3. Don't gank in 2v2s unless other team does it first. In 4v4s it's alright, nobody expects you to be honorable in there.
4. If in a 2v2, wait for the enemy to do their execution before you start fighting them. You may guardbreak them out of it once they get their HP exec reward and then throw them, but don't throw off a cliff or try to get any damage off of it. In 4v4s, interupt as much as you want, nobody expects you to be honorable in there. And once again, you may forego any honor you wish in 2v2s as long as the other enemy does it first.
5. All of the above are optional, play the game however you wish. Only follow if you want to make more friends and encounter less toxicity.

As for how I got the game for free. Back in 2018, they did a free weekend of "Get it now, keep it forever". So I did, and then played until about 2020, stopped for a year and then came back in 2021 on Console. Now I'm back on PC.

I'll give the game a 7.5/10, and only because this game seems to have conditioned me to be addicted to it. I literally can't stop playing, and even when I do, it's only for a few months at most. I'm like a relapsing alcoholic, I need help.
