It was a bit of an anti-climax, with little fanfare once I'd completed level 100. Now onto another classic breakout called Hyperballoid that I doubt I will ever complete becasue there are a thousand levels due to the many expansions released. I bought every one of them costing me a small fortune at the time as each expansion cost $14.99 and there were at least ten or more; each expansion giving you a themed set of levels to destroy.
Shortened review:
Buy the game, install, play the game, you'll love it.
It's got some original features, has three levels of difficulty, several brick types and 28 excellent power ups to help or hinder your progress. Every tenth level includes a boss fight where a giant robot tries to destroy your ship.
The game combines the original with some level packs that were released after the original. The game has been updated with some new robot effects.
Anoix * (3D circular Breakout)
PowBall Renaissance * (the original version (PowBall) is free via Caiman Games)
DX Ball ": 20th Anniversary Ed * (lots of level packs)
Caromble * 3D breakout still in early access, but excellent)
Action Ball 2 *
Breakin (2D circular breakout)
Little Gods (a pong like breakout)
Arkanoid The Virtual Isles ( a scrolling breakout)
Z Ball Deluxe (two games combined - similar to Krakout, but better)
Arklight (3D Breakout with a Shmup theme)
Breakball 2 gold (highly configurable)
Rival Ball Tournament (pong like with some gorgeous graphics and challenging game play agains an AI opponent)
Arcamania 2 (Wacky arkanoid)
Action Ball 2 (Boss battles and a vague shmup mechanic)
Wizorb * (RPG elements)
Reaxxion (unusual mechanic for recycling balls)
Shatter * (brilliant with some original features)
Iron Storm 2 * (Fast paced and hard)
Aky's XP breakout (one of my top five favourite 2D breakouts with a level editor)
Incrediball: The Seven Sapphires (3D, a little dated, but has some unusual power ups)
Breakquest (Amazing level selection and highly configurable - now free HERE [breakquest.com])
3D Ultra Pinball: Creep Night ( Abandonware, requires DOSBox)
Hyperballoid 2 (level Editor)
Breakout: Invaders (Breakout with an invader like theme)
Ricochet Infinity (level Editor with thousands of levels available)
Asterisked ones are available via Steam. Each one of the above titles offers something different from your standard breakout. Some are getting on for 15 to 20 years old now, but all still excellent examples of the genre and well worth getting if you have the funds. The list isn't exhaustive as there are loads of others worth mentioning, but the following (see above) are among my favourites.
