I will go against the grain with this mini-review. This game is a blunt Super Metroid copy. I don't understand where people claimed that it tried new things, because most of them are variations of things that already existed in Super Metroid, with different graphics.

That being said, I do not believe Axiom Verge is a bad game. In fact it is pretty good. I have been playing many metroidvanias as of late, and it is the only game that took me 10 hours to finish (I usually take 2-5 hours).

It does not stand on its own like Momodora does, since Momodora feels and plays like a unique game. Axiom Verge feels and plays like Super Metroid, and there's nothing wrong with that.

If you're looking for a new Metroid title that is platformer, but it doesn't come out, you can settle with this. It's that good.

UPDATED REVIEW:

I was not aware, but the game developer alerted me that the game had reached the end of its Early Access, so I decided to try the game again, and see if anything in my review should change.

The changes made since the last time I reviewed this game were very subtile, but there's a clear difference in how the game plays and controls from what it was to what it is.

The hitboxes seem perfected, the enemies spawn were definitely fixed, and although this game was and still is clearly meant for co-op, it is fun to play single-player as well.

It is now more of its own thing rather than a simple megaman copy, and the addition of optional permanent upgrades really gives you reasons to keep trying until you can finally beat all the levels.

The bosses were clearly tweaked so that they'd have a more fair fire-pattern, and I am glad to say that this game is one of the few examples of how Early Access games should be developed, as there was clearly alot of attention given by the developer to the complaints people had, including to my own.

i can now recommend this game 100% to any fan of 2D platformers, and is now one of my favorite platformers on steam, right next to Ghost 1.0.

My review in 21 Jul, 2016:

Well... I really really wanted to recommend this game, but I can't. There is not enough material here for a person to play alone, and honestly it feels like most reviews are made by people who despise Mighty nº9 over trying to make a fair review.

I will start by saying this: The developers are very active in improving this game, but as it stands, the game has a lot of issues with its RNG.

There are many enemies that spawn in ridiculous places, like just where you can land to the next platform over a huge gap, or making bosses having random 360 attacks with no previous warning. Megaman had this right: for as little time as you might have to dodge an attack, the attack pattern was something that you could learn, or atleast forsee what attack was going to be performed. In here, bosses just randomly use a 360 attack as you progress the levels and they become harder.

Using [Totally Not Zero] feels awesome, but its pretty obvious that the game wasn't designed for you to walk around with a melee weapon when most enemies attack from huge distances, specially bosses. Fighting a high-leveled Hamster boss where, on death, spawns 2 tinier hamsters becomes a pain in the ass for [Totally Not Zero]. The penguin's dash is very unpredictable, and this becomes a problem when you use [Totally Not Zero], not to mention the spikes that get shot at you in later levels if you face him or any other boss on the ice level.

There are several more issues with the remaining bosses, but I won't even go into detail. It feels like with a bit of polish, it might work well, and add in a more extensive story would be really cool. Something that would really want to make you play the single player. As it stands, there's a huge skill difference between going through a level and fighting a boss (this is actually a problem that is also visible in the original Megaman X games).

I think the longer it strives to improve, and the longer it tries to separate itself from Megaman the better. There are many things in this game that I look at that weren't in the original megaman and I really enjoy, such as most powerups and the random level design and how some bosses work, but then there are also plenty of problems that are inherit to the original Megaman games, that were straight out copied and pasted onto this game, where it just seems to not blend in very well.

Again, I really want to recommend this game, and for all effects and purposes, it is superior to Mighty nº9, but I also feel like it should strive for more than "I'm better than Mighty nº9" which is honestly not a hard feat to accomplish.

I think this is litteraly the only time I have ever and ever will write a review without playing the game.

Ghost in The Shell: Unecessarily Long Name For a Generic Looking MMOFPS has a SINGLE huge problem for me:

- It's a free game that refuses to start up.

I probably would have given more of a tought on why this game doesn't start up if it wasn't made by Nexon, but the fact is: I have purchased this game before, and had to refund it because it would refuse to get me past the login screen. Now it went free and refuses to even start up at all. I pass way over the recommended specs, so it ain't my machine.

Sorry game, your player is in another gaming platform.

To cut a long story short:

I played it on hard, and it was basically a melee-focused metroid game with awesome graphics, a Dark Souls way of telling the story and plenty of awesome characters.

It is easy to recommend this to EVERYONE that likes Metroidvania or simply platformers with plenty of challenge on the combat.

IMHO this game only suffers from having a really small world map, which I managed to 99% in less than 7 hours, not developing enough story with the characters and having a really short ending with a mockable boss that is far too easy compared to the other bosses, specially when it has 3 transformations and none of them is particularly interesting-looking or hard.

This is actually my first review of a game (I believe), so I'll try to be very honest.

I got this game in a bundle, and was thinking that this would be similar to Savage Lands, or Rust or any other game like that. Instead, I got very happy when I found out your main objective is to HUNT DINOSSAURS, which sounds and should be extremely awesome and fun. Instead what you get is a barely playable piece of garbageware.

There are several things wrong with this game, but I'll start with the few that ARE good:

- For the size of the island and the amount of things it renders, it runs very smoothly compared to other similar games, that are usually terribly optimized for PC;
- The dinossaur models look really nice. They did an awesome job modeling these creatures;
- The sound plays a very important role, which is always nice;
- Multiplayer hosting is very easy and straight forward;

And that's basicly all there is good to it.

Everything else is pretty bad:

- You can't run 50 metres without running out of stamina. Remember that you are playing a game where you fight dinossaurs, often bigger and faster than you, and you cannot run enough to dodge their attacks. I read the forums, some people view this as CHALLENGE, where I just view it being abnoxious, because the very moment you find yourself at the wrong end of a dinossaur, you're done for.
- Did I mention that the stamina you use for running is also the same stamina used for attacking? That makes a hit & run strategy completely out of the question. you either hit and die or run and die a little bit later.
- The fact that you can't run makes playing with friends extremely annoying, since when you die, you respawn nearly a mile away from a friend, and walking takes alot of time.
- Your initial weapons are pretty much useless. Regardles of how much you manage to dodge the dinossaurs and attack, the moment the dinossaurs feel like they're getting too hurt, they run away instantly. This makes sense, and I can imagine it would lead to extremely fun moments where you'd race against the dinossaur or stalk him to his nest if, you know, you could actually run.
- Regardless of the dinossaur's difficulty, they're pretty dumb. If you circle them by the tail they'll just endlessly turn with you. Ocasionally they'll try to run forward and turn around to gain some space, but if you go after them you'll get them by the tails again.
- There are smaller dinossaurs in the island that are actually killable. I figured they'd be for early-game, for people to hunt down these easier dinossaurs until you progress and unlock better stuff to kill the big dinossaurs with. Big F-ing nope. They attack you, take life easily from you if they're in a group, and give you nothing at all if you kill every single one of them. Not a single G.
- The game is very undecisive when it comes to movement in various terrains. You aren't allowed to jump, but you can take fall damage from very small falls. You can climb up mountains that almost make 90 degrees with the ground at regular speed as if it were nothing, but good luck trying to go back down. Yeah, apparently all the dinossaur dung on top of the mountain made your feet slippery, and as soon as you touch the ground to climb down again you'll instantly slip and fall to your death.

I could go on for several more points, but I feel like these are the main decisive points on why I recommend people to avoid buying this game. I have played bad games on Steam and never wrote a review on them, but I had to for this game, for the simple reason that it had everything needed to be a great game, and in the end it feels more like a slap in the face for ever buying it.

4/10 - in need of a serious revamp.

This game has a series of issues that were simply overlooked by the developer...

First, We have to allow the usage of possibly dangerous files in order to get it working.
Second, the controls for the game are just god awful.
Third, you cannot edit resolution, decide if you should play in a window or screen, and any of those nice things until you're inside the game.
Forth, If you have a controller plugged in to your computer, it will force you to use it instead of the keyboard.
Fifth, the developers seem to not want to fix any of these previous errors.

My advice: Avoid this game. It won't ever get any better than this. I got it from a Humble Bundle Purchase, and I'd rather if my games had not come with this game attached to it, it just makes me feel bad for ever supporting it.
