Used to like this game and I made mods for it and helped improve the game etc.

Then Hinterland decided to ban all modding and lockdown the games code to prevent any modding (switched to IL2CPP).

This company doesnt give a damn about the community and modding.

This is the only game I ever regretted buying and I wish I didn't. I bought it for the ability to mod and play mods.

Hi,

To clear up some confusion we have never blocked mods, or done anything deliberately to prevent modding from happening in The Long Dark. We also have stated several times that official mod support is in the plan for the future.

We are a small development team, working on a large and ambitious project. The Long Dark continues to be in active development and as such as we work to improve the game for all players at times the changes we make adversely affect unofficial mods. These changes are to make the game better for our players, not made to disable mods.

We have communicated, directly at times, with modders about the reality of the situation and for the most part people understand that our desire to improve the game at times is at odds with existing mods. We understand that this story is not as exciting as the one you shared about us banning mods, but that is simply untrue.

It’s certainly your right to give us whatever review you want if you feel the lack of current mod support in the game is worth giving us a negative review after all your hours of play. However we would certainly appreciate the chance to clear up this confusion around mod support that you’ve provided.

As noted it’s coming to the game in the future!

Thanks for supporting The Long Dark.

Once again - Hinterland never supported modding in the first place, so you can't complain about mods not working anymore. You keep ignoring the positives that IL2CPP brought to the table, because the only thing you care about is mods. You keep insulting the developer because a feature that was never intended to be in the game is not working anymore.
It's ironic how you compare Bethesda - a developer that doesn't care that a game they re-released 15 times has gamebreaking bugs and issues that have to be fixed with mods - to Hinterland and say that Hinterland doesn't care about its community. You're looking at the whole thing only from a perspective of a modder, even though the majority of players don't care about mods at all.

I understand that you're angry and even I think that it's a shame that mods aren't working anymore, but this really isn't a way to deal with it. Let's just hope that the official mod support will come at some point, eh? That would be the best for everyone.

All I can say is I wish it was possible to refund! I bought TLD after playing the pirate version for a month since after I started creating my mod I saw the potential the game had and I wanted to push the development along in some small way. The devs however have abandoned the game I paid for and TLD today is not the TLD I paid for. I can only play the 1.4.7 version of TLD not the newer ones since they ruined the experience.
Hinter can sit there and claim all day long they will "one day add back what they deleted so people can mod again" but you know what? Who cares I certainly wont come back and mod and I'm sure the vast majority of the modding community aint coming back either. A game grows by its modding look at Skyrim... Enough said.

Dont give me that pile of bull..... Hinter ruined my and many other modders careers modding TLD. There was an entire community with dozens upon dozens of mods and hinter just pissed all over it. Years of work down the drain. You dont give a rats ass for the fans and their creation. Dont even pretend to. Thats just insulting. We all know you removed modding support on PURPOSE and you did not need to. We arent retards we are programmers too and we use unity too and we know exactly what you did and why you did it. There are games far far FAR bigger than TLD which utterly thrive on the allowing the modding in UNITY and they would never ever dream of disabling that like Hinter did.

@Cheryl You seem to be completely missing the point. Bethesda supported modding from the beginning officially, while Hinterland never did. You should be aware of this.
The Long Dark struggles with performance on consoles and can't be ported to Switch because of how demanding it is. Hinterland is making efforts to port it there and this was likely one of the things they've done to improve performance. It's not a lame excuse at all.
The last thing you seem to be completely missing is how Hinterland actually cares about the game and players: You keep repeating that they don't care about the community because of mods, while completely ignoring the fact that they reworked WINTERMUTE last year because people didn't like it, for example. Do you seriously think this is how a developer that doesn't care about the community looks like?

TLD will remain one game I should have never paid for and I only paid for to support the growth of what was there --- I do not support rolling things back and locking it down. Imagine if Skyrim suddenly released an update where modding is no longer possible are you gonna sit there and be like "Its no big deal Bethesda has a new vision for the game"........

When you support a game in development you dont expect it to get worse and if it does something is wrong. The vast potentials of modding was the key reason I bought it and now all modding is wiped out. Hinter isnt going to add their own modding system and even if by a miracle they did it would be some severely limited LUA bullshit rather than the full access to the games code we had before IL2CPP.....
Cheryl 22 Dec, 2019 @ 10:36am
@Lochivan
Probably 200 of that was spent making mods.

@Azdrawee
Games far bigger than TLD arent using IL2CPP and their performance is grand. Lame excuse.
Hinter has been aware of mods for years and they dont just tweak one little thing they were adding new features and items and gameplay modes to the game.
One guy was doing amazing creative stuff in TLD and now his way to make art was wiped out in one click of a button by Hinter.
I leave a negative review since the game is not the game I paid for. They have turned it into shit and the devs are horrible against the community and outright hostile to modders. Modders have been banned just for trying to create mods in the past.
My mod added ability to rotate/place items perfectly and jump etc and now jumping is no longer a thing.

You got 260 hours of enjoyment out of what, 15, 20 bucks? Sounds like a steal to me.

You've bought it for the ability to play mods, even though Hinterland was very clear they don't support unofficial modding from the beginning. That's just stupid. Their change to IL2CPP wasn't to prevent you modding the game, it was to improve performance, which it did.
Hinterland obviously cares about the community and they've promised official mod support in the future. You're still able to use mods in older versions, which are accessible through the official Time Capsule feature.
You're basically complaining about the game getting updates which break unofficial modding that wasn't ever supported, even though you're able to still use them in older versions.

= You're essentially leaving a negative review because the game's getting updated.
