This is my 3rd time updating my review of Marvel SNAP. The first time was on October 20, 2022, the second time was on November 21, 2023 when I passed 1k hours and both of these were good reviews and I recommended the game. Unfortunately, and I do mean that, I just passed 2k hours into a game that I really do love and I just can not recommend this game in it's current state. I feel like my time and money may be better spent somewhere else, and tbh I don't like feeling this way. There a two extremely big issues I have with the game and some people do echo my feelings.

My biggest issue with the game is nerfing a card shortly after release. Shortly after release for me is within a month time frame when it goes live. This game has single card acquisition, this is very different than most digital CCGs. In most of these, you get booster packs with multiple cards and they are often tied to a big set of a lot of cards. With Marvel SNAP it's not like that, the first week of a new season you can buy the season pass and get the season pass card and then you can use in game currency, whether it be using 1 to 4 keys depending on how good your RNG is or spending tokens to get the new card. Then there's normally 1 new card that is added into the game for the other 3 weeks of the season. People are spending hard to earn currency on a card based on the way the card is at launch. With single card acquisition a nerf to a card 1 to 4 weeks after launch is horrible because there's no currency protection. No one wants to spend 6k tokens or multiple keys on something and then it's nerfed shortly after it goes live. Currency protection needs to be added to the game!

The second issue is the new player experience. I try to look at what it would be like if I was a new player starting out, and in the current state of the game it would be horrible. Trying to catch up with the way things currently are would be an absolute nightmare and I just couldn't recommend Marvel SNAP to a new player.

In the near future, it may be in the best interest on all fronts for Second Dinner to change to a different card distribution model where the new card each week would be available to everyone without cost. The spotlight system would still be in place where people would use their keys and tokens, but instead of new cards it would feature cards from the past 2 years which people don't have yet as well as older and newer variants.

One of the best, most innovative card games ever made. Completely weighed down by a terrible acquisition model.

If they are not careful,, the game will die in like 2 years, it's just not sustainable when they can't bring in, new long term players. It takes a new player upwards of a year to even be able to build any of the meta decks.

I think at the very least they need to do loner decks that new players can use for each month, to allow them to get to use the new cards.
