Since ARK came out of early access yesterday, I have decided to rewrite my review.

Even though it is a full release now, it still doesn't feel any different from when it was early access. The many bugs and glitches are still there, optimization is horrible and it just doesn't feel as polished as other titles in the same genre. The dino AI is very simplistic and primitive (if you are within a dinos "aggro-radius" it will automatically come charging towards you even if you are hidden or behind a tree). There is no stealth mechanic in the game.

Oh and the "gameplay" in the numerous trailers released does not represent how actual people actually play this game. The meta consists of making a big metal cube with turrets surrounding it on all sides. You usually stick to three different species of dino; argentavis, quetzalcoatlus and pteranodon (Wyverns and griffins if you play on the other maps). There is barely any Player Vs Player in combat, because people prefer to hide away on their OP dinosaurs instead of walking around with rifles. PVP consists of people either picking you up and dropping you from great heights, or they come rushing towards you with Gigas and T.rexes.

Personally, I think wildcard is focusing on the wrong things in ark though. They have been adding too much useless Tek tier stuff that only 3% of the playerbase actually aquire legitemately. I would like to see them focusing more on the primitive tools and weapons instead. Tek tier is almost impossible to aquire without grinding for 3k hours.

But, I have had alot of fun and made many friends on the ARKs. I have been playing ARK since it released in 2015, and it has been really fun and exciting to see wildcard develop their game over the course of two years. The basic gameplay can be fun, and the cave exploration is thrilling! Dossiers/Survivor notes are fun to collect and many of the creatures are good looking and very well modeled (even though many creatures look ugly and cartoonish and do not represent what the real animal would've looked like in real life).

I cant reccomend this game, but I also can reccomend this game. Its a mixed review. But since Steam only has two options (Yes or no) I will reccomend this game for the benefit of the doubt.

And the scorched earth DLC was pretty cool. Better than the base game imo.
