What you actually meant is probably the best realistic WWII aerial combat game instead. Even though it is a sim, but calling it "the best" is quite a stretch.
Not to mention that DCS is the best sim. Period.
Though, the engine management still is basic imho (you have an auto mixture/pitch), the cockpit is not clickable, and so all the systems are not represented etc...
This is not a bad thing, don't get me wrong. But IL-2: BoS is more "gamey" than "simmy".
and war thunder is a completely different game, going for the arcade player base more so then IL2 Sturmovik and Cliffs of Dover and even DCS, they go for a more simulator player base.
