If you were expecting to waltz into this DLC with your level 250 NG+7 demi-god and spank everything, you'll be bent over and humbled real fast. Somehow, FromSoft has managed to recreate the feeling of playing Elden Ring again for the first time. Smacking head-first into a brick wall that demands you adapt, improve, explore the new world, and discover new ways to overcome. The genius of this low-key sequel cannot be overstated.

Some of the coolest weapons, spells, armors, equipment and movesets of any souls-like game to date. All purposefully placed around a massive, pretty new world in proper Elden Ring fashion. You can go into this blind and trust that the world is so well crafted, it will guide you unknowingly on your own journey. Really a love letter to all those fans who were captivated by the base game. As much a masterpiece as the original.

Simply the most important game of the past 10 years and quite possibly the greatest game ever made. Play it however you want, this game is equal parts beauty, terror, frustration and triumph, from a time game worlds were still big, mysterious, and magical. A memorable experience, unique to your play style, guaranteed.

00s classic with HD and controller support right out the gate! what more could you want? well... maybe 16:9, but you can get a patched exe for that no problem.

long time HW fan, played every game, including the mobile one lol. got the collectors edition, game is pretty meh.

Single Player Campaign
campaign starts beautiful and awe inspiring and then just sucks. Short, pretty, gimmick missions that are cool in concept but dumb to play through. last few missions are pretty big, but the game mechanics aren't particularly deep. spam, target micro, pop a few abilities.

Story
Everything you read about the story is true. It starts out novel with some interesting ideas, most of which go nowhere. Villan is a genocidal disney cartoon. but its okay because she was lonely. game about galactic conflict ends up a camp, cheesy story about three women finding each other. They tried to make homeworld story more character focused, but went overboard. Some interesting ideas for character conflict, which are never really explored.

Gameplay
Game mechanics suck, coming as a homeworld player and starcraft player and all manner of RTS and strategy game you can imagine. You can see what they were going for, making it more 'modern', but just desperately lacks refinement. Execution is very lacking. Abilites do nothing to change how you use a unit, theres no skill check, just 'press for dps' with a cooldown. Unit interactions are crap, everything feels samey and lack any punch. You'll never think 'oh no, bombers I didnt see.' Comes down to spamming efficient generalist units like assault frigs... assault corvs... then topping it off with ion cannons as needed.

Multiplayer
Skirmish is a joke for above reason. Resourcing is super efficient, and your mothership can build each queue simultaneously, so you just build everything in an attempt to spend all your money. Just spam and throw it at each other and micro a bit and its over in 10 minutes, whoever snowballs wins. No harass, no tech decisions, no builds, no army composition, just gather, yolo.

War Games
Probably the best game mode, and its still a bit mediocre. Just level up and unlock new cards and fleets. The enemy spawns are a bit borked, its always corvette and fighter spam, then suddenly destroyers. So spam assault frigs and then your anti cap of choice. Your run on higher difficulties depends a lot on the cleanness of your opening and your teammates and your luck in the draw.

Overall
pretty mediocre, bare bones offering with some amazing art, music and concepts and poor execution in story, gameplay, features. No achievements, no unlockable skill trees for coop, skirmish feels like an alpha build, campaign is too short, starts strong and goes nowhere. Story is really, really bad. Like almost Star Wars Sequels bad.

Buy it anyway because its homeworld, and maybe the modders will make it fun.

Just don't rely on the publishers because judging by the roadmap, I dont think the planned content will address the issues... They need some real feature additions and gameplay rework, I dont think a few playable races in a terrible skirmish mode or some new wargames maps will solve anything. Compared to other AAA RTS franchise releases like SC2, AoE4, this is very, very bare bones.

This is a hard game to get into.

If you manage to get it stable at a decent framerate, if you get past learning all its loot mechanics, if you get past the unpolished feel of the game vs arkham, the copy-paste ubisoft world, and the wasted potential of a detailed but empty feeling city, then there's a good game underneath with great story, well written side quests, and flawed-but-still enjoyable RPG mechanics.

Ambitious with some great ideas for the franchise, it just misses that lore-rich, detective-crimefighter feel that arkham is great for. Some of the new systems have potential but lack polish--the building is not that varied, the looting is a bit flat, the crafting is an afterthought, the cosmetics are a perk more than anything substantial. And the characters don't feel very acrobatic or parkour, and movement is sort of 1-dimensional like Japanese games.
