Terraria looks pretty standard to start with. Chop down trees, build crappy house, fight monsters, mine ore. Simple, right?
But when you play for a bit longer, the game just expands with each new NPC in your town, and with each new biome you find. The wealth of content almost never ends and each time you think you've beaten the game and have become an OP god of everything, the game throws more at you to keep you occupied.
Quite possibly the best game I've ever played. Not to mention it's amazingly cheap and to this day the devs are still adding tons more free stuff, which is why I nominated it for the "Labour Of Love" Steam award and am currently editing my review for the badge.
