Well I think it was meant more along the lines that you don't "go backwards" in a video game. Like you don't play through several levels of a game one day, and then the next you've suddenly fallen behind and now have to repeat those levels again. You can make progress in that game, and the game will save that progress permanently, for you. (You can delete your save file, yeah, but that's not really the point.)
Kiddiec͕̤̱͋̿͑͠at 🃏 18 Oct, 2022 @ 3:37pm
That first part sounds pretty similar to what my therapist says.

@ progress, linear, game :

Considering that Bowser just stole 169 coins from me while I was in third place (3 stars behind) in a Mario Party 2 match, during the last 3 turns (when I otherwise would have had the opportunity to turn it around) - I think it depends on the game.

Mario Party 2 & Terraria are pretty accurate gameplay experience representations to real life in different ways from each other. Mario Party 2 in how you can just suddenly & unavoidably get wrecked and set back and Terraria in how you get stuck starting off with inefficient tools which you are probably going to want to get upgraded as soon as you can to better and more efficient tools.
Phirestar 18 Oct, 2022 @ 3:27pm
I haven't gone to any therapy myself, but I have been watching a bunch of self-improvement content on YouTube this year, and it has definitely taken me in the right direction. I think especially Dr. K (HealthGamerGG), who seems to have a video that relates to me heavily every week. I've heard him say that making progress can actually result in you feeling worse when you're stuck thinking about, "This is where I should be", and that it's about asking yourself what you can do today. (And the keyword being "can", not "should".) That's the one part that I'm still struggling with, I'd say.

I've also heard several people say that progress in life is not linear, in the way that it works in games. The idea of a graph with a smooth, straight line in a constant upward direction is not a realistic expectation to set for yourself. It'll plateau, maybe even dip downwards at times, frequently. What's important is that when you zoom out to the overall picture, it is going up.
Kiddiec͕̤̱͋̿͑͠at 🃏 18 Oct, 2022 @ 2:30pm
I can relate. I have had similar thoughts, although, I tend to not blame myself for my worthlessness (which imo, is more wasted potential rather than actual worthlessness) but I still feel bad about not getting more done with myself. I suppose I don't have to internalize that problem, though. I was a victim of a crime and therefore I can easily & logically blame my current circumstances on the damage that was caused by the villains who committed the crime.

My weekly therapist can't do a lot for me but first & foremost he encourages me not to think in the way which you describe, of feeling like I'm failing to do enough, and encourages me to acknowledge and to be proud of what things I do manage to get done each week, while ending each session by asking what I think that I can do for the next week.
Phirestar 18 Oct, 2022 @ 1:41pm
Thanks for the well-wishes. I've had a whole lot on my mind this past year, and unfortunately that's not really going to change for some time. There is much that I need to get done, and I suppose that thinking about it constantly is sort of stressing me out.

In relation to what I was talking about in that post: I keep feeling like I'm not doing enough, and worrying that I'm not taking the steps every day that I feel I ought to be. I have learned that this isn't a good mindset to have, and that it's probably just working to hold me back that much more. I'll figure it out at some point, I suppose.

I hope that things are going alright with you in your own life.
Kiddiec͕̤̱͋̿͑͠at 🃏 17 Oct, 2022 @ 11:52am
I'm surprised no one has commented in all this time. You know. I meant to send a friend request after asking that but then I didn't remember to or something, idk.

I've been pretty depressed & having declining mental health and growing home problems since then. I had hoped I'd just be better later. I haven't had much in the way of game development to discuss either because my life problems prevent me from working on my game.

I saw your post, though :

I hope you're doing well. If you'd like to talk about more than just game development and try to be friends then feel free to. I'm not very good at initiating either but I can try sometimes.
I really do hope you are well, Phirestar. :heart_m:

"If I ever get into game development,"

Would you be interested in chatting about game development sometimes?
Fluxxation 6 Dec, 2021 @ 1:42pm
Yeah, I had a few deaths spoiled when looking on Amazon to buy the books. Quite a shame that some people can be that dim when it comes to writing a review.

I’ve also considered becoming an author, not a ton, but I do enjoy writing. Warriors and Rick Riordan’s books were the biggest influence for me.
Phirestar 6 Dec, 2021 @ 1:38pm
No worries, it's not that big of a deal.

Just make sure to not be one of those people who spoils stuff in a review. I was looking at reviews one of the later books in AVoS one time, and this person was like, "So-and-so dies, and it was so sad!", and I'm like... why in the world would you do that?

I started reading Warriors in 6th grade, myself. And I'd say it's still my favorite piece of media ever, even if I've not kept up with them lately. I've actually wanted to get into writing myself, and Warriors has been a major influence on the kinds of stories I come up with.
Fluxxation 6 Dec, 2021 @ 1:30pm
Sorry I spoiled part of the plot :-:
Fluxxation 6 Dec, 2021 @ 1:30pm
I did that in my 7-8th grade years, read all the Warrior books that existed up until the summer of 8th grade.

Yes, it does seem like “The Broken Code” was the correct title.
Phirestar 6 Dec, 2021 @ 1:28pm
That must be The Broken Code, then, because I've only read up to around book 3 or 4 of A Vision of Shadows, and nothing like that had occurred in that arc.

I've not kept up with the series consistently ever since I graduated, to be honest. I've bought a lot of the newer books, but I guess my reading habit stayed behind in high school. I remember when I first got into them, I read religiously. I actually went through all of Fire & Ice in the original arc within two days.
Fluxxation 6 Dec, 2021 @ 1:08pm
I haven’t read this series in a bit, I was on the second book of whatever the newest series was, and that was the newest, and then… BAM, freshmen year.

I can’t remember what it was called, but it had to do with bramblestar being possessed and I could tell in the next book they’d reveal who possessed him.
Jayfeather 17 Aug, 2021 @ 6:32pm
Right, he is like the most famous, Firestar, Hollyleaf and Jayfeather are my top 3 probably, I do like Tallstar too
Phirestar 17 Aug, 2021 @ 6:28pm
Originally my favorite was actually Bluestar. I think the only reason I started using the name "Firestar" (later this spelling, with the "Ph") was because I thought it would be more recognizable by other fans of the books.
Jayfeather 17 Aug, 2021 @ 6:26pm
I like Sandstorm, I like most of the Thunderclan cats, you might be able to tell but Jayfeather is my fav
Phirestar 17 Aug, 2021 @ 6:23pm
I'd say Sandstorm. The original arc was definitely my favorite of the series, and I also enjoyed how she got more "screen" time in the most recent arc: A Vision of Shadows.
Jayfeather 17 Aug, 2021 @ 6:20pm
I haven't been reading long but I love them, do you have a favorite cat?
Phirestar 17 Aug, 2021 @ 6:15pm
Yup.

I've been reading them since middle school. I haven't really kept up with them as much lately, but I do still occasionally buy and read the new releases.
Jayfeather 17 Aug, 2021 @ 5:41pm
Do you read the Warrior Cat series? I saw you on a discussion and I just had to ask since you profile pic is a cat from it

great answer on the runescape forum for new players! happy gaming!
Phirestar 26 Feb, 2021 @ 11:37am
Of course! I wouldn't pass up seeing more from that game.
Sphinx 26 Feb, 2021 @ 10:48am
so you bought the crosscode dlc? I decided soon I'l probably buy crosscode since a nice 50% promotion just came out of nowhere
Phirestar 11 Feb, 2021 @ 3:35pm
I’m not sure if it goes for cheaper, to be honest. I believe that’s the lowest it goes.

And no, I’m not buying anything this sale.
Sphinx 11 Feb, 2021 @ 3:26pm
so going to buy something during the sale? I was actually thinking of crosscode but i wanted it cheaper, might just wait for the next big sale.
Phirestar 7 Feb, 2021 @ 4:38pm
You're welcome.
Sphinx 7 Feb, 2021 @ 4:02pm
Thank you for the review
Phirestar 31 Jan, 2021 @ 4:19pm
Well I would say that CrossCode is a fairly easy recommendation. It does a lot of things - combat, puzzles, story, exploration, side quests & challenges - and in my opinion they're all pulled off very well, and without really pushing too far in a direction that might turn some away, be it too challenging, or too complex, or anything along those lines. Unless any of those elements sound particularly unappealing, it's a high choice for me as far as recommending games goes.

They are also adding one last big chunk of content, for free as well, to the game sometime this year (maybe within the next couple of months) that expands on the endgame with an Epilogue chapter for the main story, a final major dungeon, and new additions to the final area that offers a bunch of optional but interesting things to do once you've essentially finished the game.
Sphinx 31 Jan, 2021 @ 4:07pm
You see, only starting from december 2020 I started to get into indie games and I'm also trying to branch out into more genres
Phirestar 31 Jan, 2021 @ 4:03pm
No problem. If you're looking for a general summary of what I'm planning on writing, it's basically:

"CrossCode is one of the best indie games ever made, easily comparable to any well-known title, and I think it's outrageous that so few people know about it."

And I do mean that fully; it's probably the best game that I've played in the last 3-4 years (ever since I played Hollow Knight, back in late 2017).
Sphinx 31 Jan, 2021 @ 3:47pm
thank you for the answer, also sorry to bother you on your profile, looking foward to your review
Phirestar 31 Jan, 2021 @ 3:46pm
I am currently working on collecting the last of the chests around the map, before going and doing the final boss. And I've been brainstorming on what I want to put into my review for the game, as well.

Should hopefully get that done here in the new couple of days.
Sphinx 31 Jan, 2021 @ 3:43pm
