The original Amnesia is a masterclass in horror. The entire game feels oppressive. You're constantly on edge. The sound design is phenomenal. The monsters are used sparingly enough to remain scary. The writing is good. The puzzles are mostly logical and rewarding to solve. The official DLC is terrifying and the community custom stories are abundant and many are of very high quality. There is very little to complain about.

The HPL engine used here may be dated at this point, but besides being 60 FPS locked, it holds up surprisingly well. The physics interactions and general look and feel are great. The game performs well. There is plenty of tweaking you can do, as well as plenty of visual options.
