It's not easy to recommend this game in its current state. Crytek did an amazing job at making the game a little more accessible and fun when you're not a try-harder, but if there is one thing that the devs have yet to fix, and most likely won't, it's their matchmaking.

The current matchmaking is broken. You have 6 stars in the game, which roughly tells you where you are in the matchmaking. Of course, those are only display and you have a hidden Elo-like system behind it. Thing is this matchmaking has lots of major issues that makes it extremely rough for new players.

- Moving in the ranking is extremely fast. You can be at the start of MMR 5 on the afternoon and end at the end of MMR 3 in the evening. MMR 3 is where most of the players end up being, which is where most beginners end up being as well.

- The matchmaking gives a big adventage to solo players, and a small advantage to duo and random queues. This means that an MMR 5 playing solo against teams of 3 will end up with players near the end of MMR 3, right before MMR 4. This is a huge issue, because even if you'll have some saying that you should mathematically win a 3vs1, the large gap of skill makes it impossible for new players to take down a veteran who knows the map and weapons almost by heart, and feel like they teleport with how fast they can move through them.

- Considering the two last points, it means some toxic players abuse of the system to go kill noobs to grow their KD ratio. Since when you get killed by someone lower than you in the MMR, you will lose more MMR points. If you kill someone with low MMR, it'll not increase your MMR by much at all. This means you can kill two players and die only once, but still lose MMR. Some even get themselves killed a bunch of time to make sure they lower low enough and better pick the easy target.

As an end MMR 4 to almost MMR 5 players, almost 450h of playtime at time of the review, I find my games to be easier when I'm MMR 4 than when I'm MMR 3 just because of the many downrankers you can encounter. This is NOT normal. Being lower in the matchmaking SHOULDN'T make the game harder. It makes absolutely no sense at all.

In the end, I still recommend this game. If you are patient enough and can deploy some resolve to look past the matchmaking issue and push through the struggles, the game is worth it. I have yet to see a competitive PVP game like Hunt. Between its gunplay, the PVE aspect and all the strategies you can go for depending of your gear and the places and situations you find yourself in, this game is a true little gem. There are very frequent content update that also bring balancing for the game. In that regard, Crytek has a tendency to take two steps forward, then one step back, but in the end, they are going forward to make this game even better than it already is, which is all that matters. I'm always very excited for the new updates to see what they changed and how.

I hope to see you in the bayou with us!
