Perfect throwback to those who have been following the series since the very first Playstation 2 Online days. If you are familiar, this plays similar to that kind of old Monster Hunter gameplay fans are familiar with and adds fun twists and environmental assists to keep the gameplay interesting.

The only real downside I would say is the lack of the more polished online features found in the previous games like: fully-fleshed out lobbies where players can communicate and share tactics or equipment meta. Even joining other player's games becomes a chore as the Japanese are not real well-versed into online connectivity in today's age as of yet which is a deep shame on their part- as can be see with the myriad of cheaters who one-shot monsters in this game today. This game also lacks a full environment scape with the likes of Monster Hunter: Trii as even that old Wii game has underwater levels as well as monsters. There is less emphasis on environment meta where in the previous games, being unprepared for a battle in the wrong environment meant a high chance of losing because you are lacking or now have to rely on the equipment on others to survive. There's an overwhelming lack of features that older games had, but this is still a very solid experience that is meant to be experienced fully online with other people.
