A lot of great art mostly wasted on very basic gameplay wrapped in the most fan pandering writing imaginable.

There's too many and a perfect amount of things to love about it. So instead here are a few I believe could have been better:
  • Everything off the loading screens would have been a lot more impactful first experienced during gameplay, not as a still image in-between deaths/travel.
  • Compared with the way it's handled with the Bonfires and Sculptor's Idols, the simple fade to black at the Grace sites comes across as too much of an omission.
  • The ever-present music is a little overbearing at times.
  • Personally, not a fan of the bombastic musical piece in the main menu. It's great, but an odd choice for the start of the game. Even when launching it for the hundredths time, I would much rather skip it as soon as possible, mostly because it just doesn't fit with whatever follows right after, most of the time.
  • The opening slideshow is underwhelming. Not that the rest of the experience is in any way lessened because of it, but it clearly tries building excitement.
  • With what it allows the enemies, the game expects a lot from the player. How much of an issue it is, heavily depends on the way one chooses to play it however.
  • This is the smallest slightest quibble, but still. Smithing stones 1 through 9? Gone are the days of titanite stones, slabs, shards, chunks?Godefroy very narrowly avoided getting named Godrick 2.
none of these and not all of them together make the game any less than absolutely wholly perfectly enchanting. There are no words to describe how wonderful it is if you let yourself be lost in it.

Occasionally intriguing and mostly a pleasure to look at and listen to, but so poorly realized that the real challenge in seeing it through to the end is in putting up with all of its shortcomings.

Early Access Review
The coziest coop with a great sense of adventure. Can get old fast once you've seen most of it and aren't big into crafting-building though.

a multiplayer-only game either afraid of being multiplayer, or unsure why it is one. Performance optimization isn't a thing it's concerned with too apparently.
There's some nice environmental design here and there and lighting does occasionally do cool things though.

Either the team's perception of what the original was is way off, or it's not the game they've set out to make. But then if it isn't, why call it a Gothic remake in the first place? notlikethis.png

40+ hours in, and having finished the game, I keep getting pleasantly surprised with the scenarios it throws at me.

Consistently good humor throughout, which ties in with gameplay really well. A required reading for any cyberpunk or 90s pop culture fan.

What starts off rather unassuming and crude looking, is largely an interactive illustration to Alan Watts' model of thinking, sprinkled with pondering on a lot of common human concerns. I wasn't aware of the guy or his views before playing, but of the thoughts and philosophy laid out in the game, I very much enjoyed everything.
Regardless of your worldview, please give it a go. It's not much of a game, but you might like it if you're into collecting things and exploration.

Despite some technical shortcomings here and there, a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The humour is great, the actions are fairly logical, and nothing beats the late medieval/early renaissance aesthetics.
It is short, but isn't lacking.
