This DLC is more miss than hit. The majority of the new items added are either functionally useless or in some cases outright detrimental to pick up. The new characters leave a lot to be desired. The new stages are pretty cool, I guess, and I like the skins I've unlocked so far, but those are pretty slim praise compared to how bad the rest is.

I am a huge fan of the series, and got 100% achievements in both previous games. I was absolutely excited for this game to come out, and it has met and even exceeded my expectations. I'm absolutely floored by how much love and effort went into this, and I can see myself playing this for a very, very long time.

It has all of the things that I loved about the first game, with a significant number of problems resolved and a whole slew of new content to boot.

Used to be a fairly decent game, but now it's literally unplayable with friends. Kind of dishonest to keep the line "Bring your friends along for the journey with online and LAN multiplayer." in the marketing line.

To be clear, even if you turn off your firewall COMPLETELY, the game will still say you have firewall problems. Even if you modify settings files and forward ports, it will refuse to connect to friends' servers (and vice versa).

Don't touch this game unless you're okay playing singleplayer-only.

A fascinating look at a different interpretation of the Animal Crossing formula.

Dinkum approaches many aspects of the formula in ways I wholeheartedly welcome, such as the day/night timekeeping, terrain manipulation, and combat. These are a breath of fresh air and made the game thoroughly enjoyable.

There are a small handful of downsides, most of which I imagine will get resolved as the game progresses through its early access period. The main angle that I'm not sure will be addressed is largely a matter of personal taste - the NPCs being human and within this art style makes the game less visually appealing in my mind, and the NPCs are largely forgettable by comparison to Animal Crossing NPCs.

Overall, if you want an AC-like game on PC, this is it. If you want AC that doesn't force you to stick with real-time mechanics and punish you for passing time, this is it. However, if you want the cutesy animal NPCs of AC, or a 100% peaceful game with no combat nor hunger mechanics... this probably isn't for you.

Another pleasing entry in the Coffee Stain line. This is one of the better prop-hunt type games I've seen, with a great sense of visual style and charm. I appreciate the balance consideration taken, as well as all the little tricks you can find.

I don't see a compelling reason to play this over other team-based shooters like TF2 and Overwatch. This is basically a watered-down version of Overwatch with a Gundam skin over it. Unless you're a really big Gundam fan that's willing to settle for a worse game experience just to have that theme, don't waste your time on this.

This is certainly the best iteration of the Fromsoft/Souls-like formula by a long shot, and in a lot of ways it's also one of the best Open World games in recent years. It's been a long time since I've been this captured by a new gaming experience.

Elden Ring presents a world clearly influenced by many other works, but manages to capture all of their best sides while simultaneously overcoming or outright eschewing most of their worst sides.

From Breath of the Wild we get an exploration-focused world with emphasis on Horse travel and emergent combat strategies. We get otherworldly visuals designed to evoke an immersive fantasy setting. And luckily we DON'T get Weapon Durability nor empty fields of nothing but copy-pasted bokoblins.

From Elder Scrolls games we get a world with densely packed points of interest, each with its own little story to tell - every nook and cranny has something to find. We also get a grand sense of adventure - that no matter what our primary goal is, we are not only allowed but *encouraged* to explore and see the world before tackling the Big Bad. And our directives and quests are much more in line with Morrowind than Oblivion or Skyrim, which is to say that the game trusts you to find out where you're going rather than holding your hand and pointing you to every little objective. Mercifully, we DON'T get a bloated world full of NPCs all voiced by the same 3 voice actors who have so much to say about literally nothing - what limited NPCs we encounter in Elden Ring have a beautifully varied cast of voice talent, and each of them only say what they need to say.

From previous Fromsoft/Souls-like games, we get a fine-tuned combat experience that explicitly tells the player that they need to employ strategy and timing in order to succeed. And it is oh, so satisfying to beat an enemy after learning its patterns and tricks, knowing that it wasn't by luck nor pity, but by one's own improvement that victory was achieved. What we DON'T get is a drab world full of greys, browns, or pale blues - Elden Ring is a vibrant and colorful world full of beauty and variance.

Elden Ring evokes vibes of many other games and franchises as well - a little Shadow of the Colossus here, or a little Witcher there - any of your beloved RPG or Open World experiences almost certainly have influenced Elden Ring in one way or another.

Now, that's not to say Elden Ring is a perfect game. There are a number of aspects of the game I would love to see them improve upon, starting with KB/M controls. While this is certainly the most KB/M-friendly Fromsoft game to date, there are still a number of things they could learn from their competition. Nioh 2's camera-lock system has an option to decouple your camera from your character's orientation, allowing you to lock onto an enemy for combat purposes, but still move the camera around to maintain situational awareness - I think this should be brought to Elden Ring as well.

Overall, I am extremely pleased with this game, and I look forward to seeing what else it has in store for me.

This is one of the most shallow ARPGs I've ever played.

The combat completely misses out on the point of ARPG-style skills, opting instead for an excessive number of generic attack skills all set up with arbitrary cooldowns to juggle for no added benefit. There's a mana bar, but I can't fathom what it would ever be used for as you regen faster than your skill cooldowns. I'll admit it might work different for another class, or perhaps become relevant after leveling up some more and skills might get more expensive... but I can't see how that would make it any better.

It's clearly designed to waste your time like the most grindy of MMOs, where every quest to slay X monster is interspersed with talking to several different NPCs at separate locations, every map-traversal animation is long for no reason, and cutscenes/dialogs/menu animations have a lot of padding.

Beyond the feel of the gameplay, it's really upsetting to see two different instances of Class selections using the same name, just being split by gender. When "Martial Artist (Male)" and "Martial Artist (Female)" are two separate classes entirely for no reason, it's pretty annoying. Even discounting the gender politics of it, why are they even the same name if they're entirely different classes?

I will say I did enjoy the Character creation screen. They clearly put a decent amount of effort into it. The voice acting is a decent display of talent, too (although I question some of the decisions the Director made on certain lines' tone and pacing).

Overall, I am immensely unimpressed, and do not recommend this game.

Nioh 2 is the best souls-like game I've played. It takes the formula and tweaks it to create a uniquely beautiful little marriage of accessibility and difficulty. Whether you play on controller or KB/M, there are pages and pages of options to allow you to fine-tune how you control your character, the camera, and the game - an absolutely divine breath of fresh air considering the genre is steeped with convoluted control schemes that can't be modified. But that's not to say you can turn down the difficulty, oh no. Nioh 2 is as brutally hard as they come, in all the right ways. But now you can die over and over knowing it's *you* that sucks, not the game controls.

Nioh possesses a deep and complex combat loop that allows for a variety of gameplay styles and keeps things fresh along its lengthy storyline and side missions. Beyond the combat, it has a beautiful design and carries striking visuals at every turn; it's among the most visually pleasing games of the genre as well.

It's obvious that a lot of love and care went into making this game, and it shows in spades. 10/10

A refreshing take on the Co-Op Zombie shooter genre. Light progression elements, an easy-to-learn build system, and hidden collectibles make replaying a level more interesting than many of its competitors, yet it also has the restraint to not turn it into a grind-fest that drains your soul like many other competitors. It's a sweet middle ground that plays very well and leaves a good impression.
