Unfortunately a hollow and heartless iteration over the original. It's hard to put to words, but it just feels off in almost every way possible compared to the flat-screen version.

In some ways, a stark break from traditional MMOs, and yet in others it's comfortably familiar.

While it still suffers from the core/fundamental issues of MMOs - namely; a lot of slow walking back and forth from quests, generic fetch quests to pad out the story, and the threat of other players stealing your gatherable resources - it stands far above other MMOs in many ways. The UI is absolutely top-tier, the combat is punchy and meaningful and has more to do with strategic positioning and timing instead of just juggling skill cooldowns, and the crafting system isn't saddled with obvious time-wasters like class/character restrictions or arbitrary wait times.

In short, this is very likely the best MMO I've played, but it's still an MMO. Once the honeymoon period is over and the novelty of the setting wears off, I'm sure the grindy nature will become more apparent to me. I have high hopes that the combat system can stay engaging enough to keep me playing, but I imagine this will eventually end the same as any other MMO for me - reaching a point where the grind outweighs the fun and I just stop playing. (That's not necessarily a bad thing, though)

The first few hours are fun enough, and I actually really appreciate a lot of the iterations it makes over Dark Souls - especially where it relates to Multiplayer.

However, there are a lot of the downsides of Dark Souls that it just completely rips off and keeps for no apparent reason. Long walks from the checkpoint to the boss arena, disconnecting multiplayer after every boss fight...

But most egregiously bad is that the difficulty is all over the place. You can face one boss who is seemingly insurmountably hard and takes several attempts before you can even scrape a win out by a razor thin margin, and then the very next boss is so easy you stomp it without even going down.

I don't regret playing it, necessarily, but the story is far from engaging and each level gets less and less interesting as it goes on. It had so much potential, but it's just a pale shadow of greater things it could've been.

While I will certainly miss Leonard Nimoy's voice from Civ 5, Sean Bean does a killer job

Pretty much all aspects of the game have been improved in some way for this version - albeit with a few areas that might be a step backwards. I won't claim that it's an inherently superior game, and in fact I'll likely be playing 5 again occasionally just for some of the other gameplay strategies it offers, but overall I think 6 is a much better experience, especially for multiplayer matches.

Saints Row: The Third does something fairly unique among its peers by starting with an already over-the-top, but still somewhat believable premise, and ramping it up to juuuust the right level of absurdity. Where Saints Row 2 was a somewhat down-to-earth story that ends on an excessive note, and Saints Row 4 went so far overboard it wasn't even the same game anymore, Saints Row 3 sits right in that little sweet spot of glorious humor and excess. And while the GTA series has some decent stories in its own right - and some might even argue better gameplay - Saints Row: The Third combines a perfect blend of sandbox action and well-written plot to create a whirlwind experience you'll never see anywhere else.

Despite being the third in the series, it does a good enough job of outlining the characters' attitudes and motivations that you don't need to play the first two to fall in love with them and follow the story without missing a beat. While the graphics haven't aged terribly well, the gameplay is still top notch and, in my own personal preference, I think a little better than what GTA has to offer. I haven't had much chance to try the Remaster of this game yet, but so far I think the tradeoff is a little too much - it's certainly nice to have better textures, lighting, and postprocess effects, but the characters in this original version have so much more style and visual personality that I think they lost something in the translation. I would say that you should at least give this one a try first before giving the Remaster a go, just so you have something to compare it to.

Overall, this game has a very special place in my heart. It was the first game in the series that I played, and even though now I kind of prefer Saints Row 2's Story, this one will always be the game I compare any open-world driver/shooter game to, and so far very few games have met that bar.

A really cool idea that adds an extra layer to Portal puzzles.

It's not perfect by any stretch - there are a couple of stages where the puzzle is less about actual puzzle-solving skill and more about reflex timing, which I'm not a big fan of - but being Free, it's absolutely worth the time to try it out.

I just wish that it had integration with Portal 2's map-builder (and ideally even multiplayer) functions. I'd love to see some absolute madness put together by a wider community so there'd be more to do with the idea than just these 25 puzzles.

Got it in a Humble Bundle, so I can't complain too much, but it really sucks that it doesn't even try to support Index. It wouldn't be so bad if the Vive support was even remotely decent, but unfortunately for whatever reason they decided not to include any way to turn if you play on Vive, and if you use an Index like I do it just boots up assuming you're on Vive.

There's no way to rebind it, no option to toggle, and an official statement from the Devs that they have no intention of updating it.

Stay away if you're on Vive or Index unless you have some damn good cable management that lets you just freely turn in real life, because otherwise you literally can't even play.

Really useful tool for viewing your desktop in VR space. It adds a whole bunch of flexible options that let you customize how, when, and where your desktop screens appear. You can use it to keep up a wiki page or youtube guide if you're stuck, or watch a livestream while you play. Even if you don't want any of the extravagant stuff like that it's worth using simply for the enhancements it offers over the default SteamVR desktop viewer.
