This game has been one of my favorites for years. I first played it on the Xbox 360 when the Orange Box was released on all platforms and have been in love with it since. I would spend hours in the Rattman dens attempting to decipher their clues and messages, and always wondered what it meant for the future of not only Portal but also the Half-Life franchise as a whole. It deeply saddens me that the leaked script for Half-Life 3 included scenes from when GLaDOS was flooding the enrichment center with a deadly neurotoxin, as I would have loved to see Gordon, Mossman and Vance all experience and attempt to comprehend what they see on the Borealis as it goes through time and space. I remember first reading that part of it and feeling a sense of loss that Half-Life 3 was not going to be released, and that Laidlaw was no longer going to be a part of it. I've become a game developer myself in the hopes of bringing Half-Life 3 to light. Portal was a huge part of why I fell in love with the games in the first place, and to this day I go through and play it every chance I get. It never gets old, and honestly it's a shame that Portal 2 abandoned the tone of this game. I wish they had kept a similar score at the very least, but I understand the need to give Portal its own identity, and that the first games in a franchise aren't always a reflection of the vision that developers have for their creations. All in all, I'm very happy that this game exists, and I will always cherish it while it thrives in the treasure house that is my memories.
