This is the most work I think I've seen put into a parody. If you like The Witness, this is worth your time.

The creators clearly have love for The Witness, and used that to make a great game of their own. Although limited, the art style and puzzles are reminiscent of the original without ripping it off.

This game honestly feels like it could have been parody DLC made for the original game.

The game is cheap and fairly simple, but these aren't marks against it. There's a a lot of content, and its minute-by-minute gameplay is incredibly satisfying.

Definitely one of the worst souls-like games out there. Honestly, it might been be one of the worst action RPGs.

The game is rife with technical problems, like frame drops and clipping through the floor. Even when the game is working properly, it does not respect your time at all. The extra steps added to respawn after every death are tedious and add nothing.

A fun and cute game that is worth looking into.

The game is pretty short, and the mechanics don't get very complex. The game's charm comes from all the quirky characters and jokes peppered throughout. The game stays close to simplistic Zelda-like gameplay, which is fine, because it is a safe way for the game to focus is on entertaining scenarios and dialogue.

Overall, I recommend this game.

The core game is fine. Most combat is satisfying, you have a variety of combat styles and enemies telegraph enough for you to fight effectively. The voice acting is decent. The art looks fairly nice. However, the story isn't revolutionary and several of the character models look very stiff.

My gripe with the game is the endgame. Upgrading your gear is extremely cost prohibitive, so I feel like I got punished for experimenting by not being able to afford upgrading my preferred gear. The level cap is fairly low, so I am swimming in experience that I can't use. The level cap is extra strange, because individual levels have very little effect, and the cost of leveling up increases with each level. Combat sometimes has the issue of enemies telegraphing their attacks offscreen. Bosses often have ranged attacks or attacks that teleport them to you as part of the attack. Unfortunately the 2D screen means they can be out of view, and you cannot see the attack telegraph, meaning you are hit without any chance to defend yourself. Finally, my biggest complaint: Heroic bosses.

Heroic bosses are given higher stats and new attacks. The increased stats seem fair, but several of the new attacks drain any potential fun from the challenge. Several of the bosses get abilities that do constant guaranteed damage to you (either periodic attacks you cannot dodge or a countdown timer before you start taking constant damage). This means the only strategy for the Heroic bosses is to do big damage. You cannot play Heroic bosses defensively or with any of the strategy you had during the base game. There is only one route to beating these bosses, and that's loading to out DPS the boss. This is especially egregious if you've spread out your crafting materials, and you can no longer level up your gear to get more DPS.

Overall, I can't quite recommend this game. If you really want a 2D Soulslike, then get the game on sale and just play through the base story.

It's definitely an interesting take on a point and click puzzle game. Unfortunately, I found it a bit too flawed to recommend.

The first few loops are very interesting, there is a lot of things to poke and prod at. However, the grand puzzle of the game is not progressed by exploration and cleverness. The only way to progress is by completing very specific steps within a single loop. You are then rewarded by being forced to do another set of very specific steps in the next loop. This is especially egregious near the end of the game, when you have to do the entire loop in a specific way multiple times in a row, adding one additional step each time.

The voice acting is pretty good. Unfortunately, the dialogue trees you are given are very frustrating. I often felt like I had several clues, but there was no way to say those clues to the other characters, which really made me feel like everyone involved in the story was a colossal idiot.

The story is alright. Nothing blew me away, but new information and twists kept me interested throughout. However, the ending definitely felt half-baked.

Overall, I think the premise, voice acting, and story are enough to put this game on may people's radar. Unfortunately, I did not think it was worth paying full price for.

The game would be okay if it was a much shorter affair. The writing isn't very good, and drags on and on.

I felt like it was trying to be something between Thomas Was Alone and Undertale, but it isn't nearly as fun, interesting, or clever as either.

The platforming and combat is fine. Nothing to write home about, but perfectly passable. There are even some decent puzzle mechanics and hidden secrets. If the game was just two hours of that, with significantly tighter dialogue, then I think it would be worth the price.

This is definitely my game of the year. I've played all of the Supergiant games so far, and I feel like this one perfected all of the their greatest strengths: satisfying game play and combat, character dialogue, and music.

Combat is very flashy and exciting, but the game does a great job of letting the player know about everything happening. You can clearly identify all of the information you need; you can see your character's abilities like dodges or blocks, the environmental hazards and ongoing effects can be told apart, and enemy attacks are telegraphed with just enough warning.

Between each run, you can talk to people around your hub area. All of the dialogue is amazing, in both writing and voice acting. It's very satisfying to see the relationships develop between each run.

The music is amazing! The background music for each area is distinct, and the game slows down at a few occasions to allow the few tracks with vocals to shine.

I do feel like the overall plot and narrative took a backseat to the amazing inter-character relationships. I don't think it's really a detriment to the game, since the game clearly focused on those relationships. I will say that I still feel Transistor or Pyre had a more satisfying overall plot.

Without a doubt, this is my game of the year.

The game is a bit slow, so steer clear if you're looking for a more action-oriented RPG. However, the writing is very clever and the characters are incredibly interesting, so I don't mind that the game has a lot of reading.

The core concept of your stats revolving around your thoughts, personality, and ideas was executed fantastically! A lot of care went into ensuring every dialogue option and dice roll had weight (regardless of success or failure).

If you want an RPG with amazing writing, and you want to play through a unique experience, then get this game.

I have changed my recommendation back and forth due to technical difficulties. An update after Iceborne made the game unplayable for me. I came back months later and it worked again. I have the odd disconnect and spike in lag, but the game works, for the most part.

Overall, I will recommend the game. It has a satisfying loop, and the monsters are varied enough that constant hunts do not feel like a grind.

Some of the "endgame" content I was not a fan of. I found that the Behemoth and the Alatreon played too much like an MMO raid, where you have to complete specific tasks before a guaranteed party wipe. The normal hunts are so fun because you can take them on in many ways, and many different builds. The game has a lot of variation in builds and play styles, but reaching new heights requires skill above all else.
