”I’ve SINNED It All”.

Here's The Thing:
You are… you know what? It doesn’t really matter who you are. What’s happened is that you should have been dead and somehow you aren’t. Not yet maybe? Was the boulder collapse intentional, if so by who!? I’m not sure- but you have to start walking to find out where you are and where it is you're going~

! DISCLAIMER !
Just replayed it for the third time as of 16th December 2022, and it's even better than I remembered! I think, mainly because in the time that's passed; I too have grown so much and made equally as much mistakes.

[+] PROS;

:) WHAT THE HIKE- IT CAMP CRASHING DOWN~
Usually walking simulators are a chore but here I felt as if the genre was made for exactly this… There’s a great deal of walking, albeit it is brisk walking, which is to be expected. But I was never lost thanks to its subtle cluing designs and cues. Even if you do, it’s only fitting given the thematic of the game!

I’d even go so far to say it’s like a tourist attraction but with a therapy session built in. Which means there's sightseeing but also some “too-easy” choices to make, some with devious solutions. All of which could branch out to two different endings, that will either confirm or deny your worst fears! The length was exactly 30 minutes for me and that’s after nabbing all of its achievements, I mean all of mine, on the second playthrough~

:) SEVENTH. HEAVEN.
Though not an original composition, I thought the royalty-free score handpicked by the dev was almost made exclusively for 7th Chance!! The music really enters and digs at your being, leaving a trail of melancholy and seeking of deliverance. It is also deceivingly bipolar by being ambient at that!

Going hand-in-hand with the low-poly environments, but I’d term the visuals “cloudy”. Like just abruptly coming to from a deep wayward slumber… but you haven’t had time yet to rub your eyes and focus on your surroundings. The mood lighting from the bonfires, colorful blinding flashes and ever-setting sun all give it that faraway into-the-unknown feeling~

:) MY HEART & SOUL IS B-ONFIRE~
I saw a review label it and was ticked off by it being a "Christianity" game, and I could see that? Although, I strongly that think it borders more on the lines of spirituality and reconciliation. And it's a powerful process too... some would argue cliched and reeks of self-help books, and you know what? If it were me a year or two ago, then I'd be inclined to agree!

However, again, in the span of time since writing-playing this. I've come to realize that maybe we all need cliches, reasons to hope, and snap us out of the funk we're in. Does a cliche mean something isn't true? Not at all! On a side-note, yeah there is no save system, but it would never have fit a game where life hangs on the balance and you could get away with do-overs. No-no-no!

Wanna know something else? I first played it during a time when no game developer would take a chance on me, or my reviews! Then almost like divine intervention, the developer gave me the "key" to my salvation; a major dose of confidence that which kept me going. And although I am nowhere near a successful review figure, that's what I needed at the time. So you can imagine my gasps and woahs when I found out about the game's redemptive nature~

:) THIS GAME CHANCED MY LIFE~
Not a horror game by any means but it is still haunting and stalks you like a shadow, especially if the choices that hound the protagonist hit a little too close to home. It’s almost personal, and we’re perhaps even treated to a glimpse of the dev’s own life. That’s what I was fascinated by- the plot, and it began in a breakneck promising fashion.

You’re then left to construe the aftermath of the boulder collapse. The answers seem obvious enough… but still I was thwarted at the end. It was a wake-up call that doesn’t fail to drop on me- how it takes almost dying for a change of heart or worse, back to old habits. And my first impressions were on point, it is like Firewatch from the break in reality down to the remorseful trip. That's precisely what we all need sometimes~

[-] CONS;

:( HIGHER YOU GO, HARDER THE FALL~
:( The price possibly doesn't match the value, so please be advised! Especially if you're expecting a lot of gameplay out of this. BUT, if you're in the mood for a game that errs on a bite-sized and heartfelt story, then it's "not worthy" of being delayed~

BUGS:
x Virtually none to report!

NITPICKS:
~ Some interactions should be mandatory; like inspecting the tent otherwise it can be a disjointed experience.
~ I’m a sucker for there being an ability to save XD
~ The good / bad end should be more blatant maybe by subtle lighting changes or environment deterioration. Instead of just differing at the ending scene.
~ The house should be made free-roam until maybe past a certain point!

Last Words?
7th Chance is a brief but not easily forgotten adventure because of its hauntingly beautiful visuals and groundbreaking premise. Its title truly speaks volume and digs at your soul for redemption~

If you like your games short then this mind-blowing, existential crisis adventure should speak to you! Complemented by an unearthly presentation to lift your spirits or come crashing down on you. At $3 a pop and easy-peasy achievements, I’d say that’s a fair price for a second chance at things~

10 / 10
