PROS;

+ I’m sure we all know that a lot goes on in the bathroom. Especially in the vicinity of the toilet bowl? Well, it’s a full-on duel and warzone where shi* happens, bounces and floats around. The whole game is essentially a string of never-ending, increasingly difficult boss fights, more move sets and minions. As an animate toothbrush, you are the only thing standing between perfect hygiene and therefore health for your master “DDmeow”, so he can continue to make money!

Earnings are split between the both of you; one will go toward the stretch goal of emigrating to Earth and the other is for you to spend as you deem fit in advancing your cooldowns, arsenal of toilet lid companions and stats. Upon reaching that milestone- the true outcome and new game plus are unlocked. Took me close to 2 hours to do so, but the FECAL point is that replay value is practically limitless for the price of zero dollars~

+ The bare bone style of lines; a cross between cartoon cutouts and stickman figures was mildly off-putting until it stuck to me and I wore it on my sleeves. Of course, the cute and silly factor helped its case immensely as well. Its restraint on incorporating color also made it palatable, not to mention tunes you into the fast-paced toilet royale~

+ I’m sure there was music at some point, but all my attention was directed to the noisily repetitive kung fu grunts and other utterances. Which undoubtedly made me more spirited but also intimidated by their battle cries. Along with a symphony of sounds fortunately not confined to ones you’d normally pick up in the bathroom. Thuds, whooshes, bangs- you name it and there they will be PLODDING against you~

+ In some ways, there was no story at all aside from the pure act of living itself and getting by. Like you don’t gotta tell me- it’s weird enough there is a talking half breed cat-dog (or is that the other way around). But that oddity crashes through the roof when it is able to carry a conversation with a toothbrush. In some bizarre manner, it made perfect sense to see an animal treat an otherwise manmade object like a human being but let’s not get bogged down by the “how”.

The protagonist DDmeow hears of numerous wondrous things about Earth. And vows to save all his money as a food delivery guy in order to be able to relocate there for he feels he truly doesn’t belong what with being mixed. It’s very heartbreaking because we know it is virtually impossible; things ARE NOT any better there. I suppose I am projecting, as it was approached from a dog’s point of view who have it easy, or do they now?

+ Underneath the ridiculous borderline gut punch of a genius setting rest profound, genuinely raw sentiments and cultural expectations typical to that of an Asian family. Being from one myself, I could most certainly bawl my eyes out and relate as to being underestimated, compared over every little thing or not being given the conventional love.

But it goes much deeper than that, it satirizes the world in which we live in as a place perpetuated by discriminatory attitudes, marked by division on the grounds of race (except here, it’s cats, dogs and etc) among other aspects and wreaked by the cursed pandemic.

It’d take an iron will to pretend you don’t know where/what it’s talking about or let your thoughts wander… Also, it had an uncannily clever command of analogies. The dirtiness as a stand in for negative feelings and obstacles that leave you vulnerable. Responsible for your declining performance and so on. How you literally have to work through crap to succeed in life. The way it brushes past your “failures” and just tries to have you get over the bumps~

+ It gets you all ankle deep in the ugliness but it also offers you salvation and encouragement. You did exceptionally? You get praises. And when you didn’t- notice there not being any game overs or frustrating progress resets. That doesn’t mean you will be met with any free passes. In fact, the boss who kicked the crap out of you will still be there. And the story ain’t budging like a stubborn stain until you scrub hard, really put your elbow into it. You do, however, get infinite chances because life (the real one, mind you) is already harsh and bitter enough. You don’t need a game to reflect and remind you of it.

The naïveté of the characters is laughable but isn’t that because we’re just too cynical? DDmeow’s exuding of patience and positivity is infectious as hell. Meanwhile, Brushy’s worshipping, unconditional support and upholding the former as one who “can do no wrong”. Although overpowering at times, it’s still quite bolstering to know someone has your back. Kinda like how Tamama does for Keroro. We could all afford to be more like these two treating one another with civility and benevolence~

CONS;

- Honestly, apart from the fact that it should not be free- but I can hazard a guess as to why it is. That’s certainly no reason to dock any points. Thus, I have none. Cleaned me right out and I feel like a new man~

BUGS;

x Could have misread the intention, but the sound effects fly off the handle when you die.

NITPICKS;

~ The toilet lid companions keep overlapping with one another. Maybe make it so they don’t mesh and remain separate entities?

~ The grammar is off, not terribly so. But enough to pop out at native English speakers. Not to sound as racist as possible, but you can almost pick up an Asian accent.

~ For new game plus, the number of minions being spawned by bosses are impossible! Perhaps focus more on the bosses' attack patterns instead?

VERDICT:
https://gtm.you1.cn/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2801037302

“If you like a Cuphead intensity swirled in with toilet humor that’s more germaphobe than straight up disgusting. If you love an unexpected turn of events that will get you going emotionally… And lose it psychologically, then hold onto your seat for that’s the shi* right there~”

@drugoja Hilarious is a definite absolutely! But it is also very serious- it is just super balanced.

It seems to have a ph value of neutral; in that it has action, platonic love, social issue awareness, cute factor and I can't see it being a *hit or miss~

AND THANK YOU VERY MUCH ehehehe:AOTS_Teacup::lunar2019piginablanket:

@SillyAgentKiiN That's the exact mindset you should have going in.

It becomes endearing rather than a fixation on weird.

Dogs and toothbrushes have more humanity than us~
