This mod is an excellent way to re-experience Half-Life. The amazing visual and gameplay improvements really highlight what makes Half-Life so great. The animation work is fluid, the dynamic lighting breathes new life into familiar scenery, and the particle effects are just satisfying all around.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that Half-Life: Uplink, Half-Life's demo, had finally found its way onto Steam through the launch menu.

Speaking of launch menu additions, there's also USS Darkstar with all the necessary MMod improvements. USS Darkstar offers an enjoyable Alien inspired survival horror experience that stays true to the original Half-Life's likeness. The sparse ammo pickups, the sense of urgency to escape from the starship's imminent end, and the return of many cut enemies from earlier builds of the original Half-Life also lent to a great experience.

In regards to the Linux version, it ran flawlessly. I had no performance issues or crashes throughout my entire playthrough. This was a good experience that I'd like to thank the developers for.

Right from the main menu and into the first levels, the scenery reminded me of that seen in the Metro franchise, which I really liked. What I didn't like was contradictory resupply rooms after all the time spent exploring the open world levels for resources scattered about. I also didn't like how the enemies frequently seemed either misplaced or sparse and how poor the performance was on the majority of levels. But I thought the last section had a slightly redeeming quality for its use in creating an ominous and suspenseful buildup to the ending sequence.

There's no official Linux port, but here's how to play it natively anyways.

Despite the reviews being mixed I enjoyed this game. It wasn't the sequel I expected, but I wasn't disappointed. Yes, I did get stuck on a few sections and the performance was occasionally a little poor, but I have to say that the combat encounters and level design, although a little bland sometimes, still managed to be decent. I also thought the soundtrack and picturesque environments elevated the experience quite a bit.

Great total-conversion mod. I'm surprised at how well done but how unknown this game is. It's a little rough around the edges with the lighting, backtracking, enemy models, and AI but so much time and effort has been put into the better parts I try to forgive some of the less polished sections. The good news though is that the faults are going to be fixed in an upcoming update which I'm very excited to see happen. Also, I'm very grateful this mod has a Linux port, for without it I wouldn't have stumbled upon it in the first place.

If you're having trouble with the models on Linux here's a fix I found: https://gtm.you1.cn/app/638360/discussions/0/2998795613907078862/#c3189116454985510683

This game reminds me of playing old Adobe Flash Player games back in the day and what do you know it's also one itself. The game explains how the power-ups and movement work right out of the gate and it's pretty easy to play from there. Find the truffles and save the day. I'm glad it works on Linux just fine but I did notice the initial cinematic scene didn't seem to display properly.

I sincerely enjoyed playing this game. From the tutorial, the environments, the upgrade system, the bosses, the items and their descriptions, the surprisingly effective horror aspect, to the amusing dialogue, all were really well done. I'm especially happy this game has a Linux port that runs well and a great team behind its continued development to this day.

This was a very engaging mod. I enjoyed how the level design was fluid and progressed well as you descended into an abrupt ending that keeps you wanting more. I too would've liked to see the next part of this series, but I'm still glad this mod exists in the first place.

A Linux port doesn't exist, but here's how to play it natively anyways.

Pretty enjoyable game. I thought it was going to take a shocking turn because of how overly happy the characters were. I'm glad this game has a Linux port. Great work!

I thought this was very well made! My favorite part about this mod was the varied environments. It started in a Combine outpost, then an urban area on Earth, the streets via a buggy, the Black Mesa facility and finally ended in space. The ending was a surprise but not an unwelcome one as foreshadowing contributed to it.

A Linux port is not available, but there's a way to play it natively anyways.

The story, level progression and attention to environmental detail is all done really well. I also appreciate the use of lighting that assisted in making a good atmosphere for the Combine facility. It almost felt like a return to the Citadel in some sections. When I first launched the game, I didn't expect much out of it. But after finishing it, my opinion has changed and for the better. I must admit, getting dropped off at the shore and being shot at immediately while trying to read the on screen text was a little annoying at first. Most of the times when the on screen text showed up, I was getting shot at. This is something I didn't like that much. But that said, the level progression is challenging but not frustrating which is also created very well.

Unfortunately, this game doesn't come with a Linux port. But there's a way to play it natively on Linux anyways.
